I did a nice burnout on my ET Streets, launched decent and when it went to 3 it just went straight to the limiter. As I came on the return road it would catch in the upper RPM in 3rd. In 1st and 2nd it was fine. The fluid looks clean, but smells a little funky.
I let it sit for a while and drove it home without a problem.
Did I just get the clutches overheated or a band?
The trans was just rebuilt in March.

Mine did this also about 500 miles after a fresh rebuild. Three hours away at the track....
Shifted fine going down the road but would only do it at WOT. So the next week I was driving it to my cousins shop to trouble shoot and possibly swap trans and some old grandma was in my way so I put it down to pass and BAM!! it shifted. ???
Fluid looked clean also, possibly some junk in the valve body... Cousin told me once I got there can't fix it if it ain't broke......
Funny guy.... but has been working ever since.. Have about 500 miles on it since no issues with the 3rd gear shift at WOT.
Just figured I would share my story since it sounded the same.

A temporary cure is to lower shift extensions, but from what I have been told once it starts you are on borrowed time. With normal driving it might last 100,000 miles, but with stock internals it won't last with abuse.

I have went 11.03 on my stock tranny. I do have a shift kit in it from Trans Go and a Fuddle 4000 converter. Mine got caught in Third gear once and the only way to get it to downshift was manually. When it did, it would clunk really bad. I thought the tranny had finally discovered it was just stock and died. I let it sit for about 30 minutes and then it was fine. I noticed when I put in my shift kit that one of the check ***** had indented the seperator plate. I think this is common for the LS1 4L60e. I think you have to replace the plate and install plastic / ceramic check *****. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
My trans did this also going into 3rd gear, I had the trans flushed at the Chevy dealer and hasnt done it since, 60k miles original stock tranny, streetraced often, has about 10 track passes on it.
