Anyone know of a local Socal shop that does good work?
Any info would help. I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but there is just so much I have learned by reading the comments on this thread. I can see that FLT & performabuilt get alot of love from you fellow LS1tech members. I might have to make a few phone calls.

Sounds like a down to earth guy. I'm looking into getting a transmission built for my SS since its acting up on the freeway. Hits 65 mph, but when I hit the gas peddle to change lanes the RPM's shoot to redline and the car just sits there at 65 mph.
Drives around town just fine if it stays under 50 mph.

I researched for awhile and talked to a lot of reputible transmission shops. I decided on FLT and got one of their Level 4 transmissions. I plan on going for the stock internal record, and I have no doubt in my mind that the trans will hold up to whatever I throw at it.

Check out the Link in my sig to My Turbo build up in the Drag racing section. Fernando at Transmission Physicians can build entire setups as well as kick *** race transmissions. How many transmission shops do Chassis work and build entire setups???
Currently my car is being built to run a 4l60e and our goal is 1000+ hp and 8.50's in the 1/4 mile. Trying for the fastest 4l60e car in the world. Stay Tuned.

My Probuilt tranny limited street just let go yesterday with less than 20 passes on it and less than 2300 miles on it. My car runs 11.0s with 1.6x 60' times. The tranny has worked great on every pass with no sign of an issue until for the very last pass. It drives fine under normal driving but will slip if romped on. This is my second built tranny the first one I ordered the parts and had a local shop built it and a part broke and fired the tranny. The current tranny was built by Probuilt and it has work flawlessly until the last pass. Probuilt has some great customer service and I will give him a call tomorrow and let him know about what happened. If Probuilt doesn't do anything I will be looking for someone else real soon.

When did performabuilt start testing their tran with a dyno? Reason I ask is that I have seen several post were your transmissions have failed and wondered if since you started dynoing them your failure rate has decreased.

Aproximatley 1.5 years ago now and yes its allows us to at MIN make sure line presure is good and all gears are there along with lockup.
Now even before volume to failure ratio was relativley low. But the dyno does indeed let us or anyone with one catch things that just cannot be caught with the naked eye and a air test.
When you build basically the same trans every day unlike a regular trans shop you do indeed hit some strange things at times.
I would have to say however its the best investment we have ever made.
(Still trying to figure out why this thread is still jumping up its two years old)

Any pictures or video's of that dyno? I would like to see some of what you are doing there and also some pictures of the shop. I know I have as well as some of our customers posted pic's and video's of the FLT operations. Got any?

Our dyno admitedtly is not near as fancy or expensive as theres nor is it as eye appealing, The basic principle is the same , controller, presure monitor, static braking.
As for our shop, some have been there its functional and large but again not as astetically pleasing. But then we dont run a retail shop so dont see alot of need to be real pretty however it is very clean.
Thats all I am gonna say on that matter.

I have been to both of your shops, the old one and the current one. They were both Clean, Organized, and appeared to be well run.
