Brand Of Tranny Fluid Are U Using!!
#61
I was wondering if the synthetic fluid would be different for a built 4L60E? I have redline ATF in mine (the one geared more towards firmer shifts) dont remember? but I have a shift kit in mine, new bands, clutches, etc. 5 pinion front and rear... anyways its only got 5K miles and although I have never taken it to a track or really raced I have loved the way it shifts? It really FIRM, with only 365 rwhp it has spun pretty good going into second with 315s and a 3.42 what do you guys think?

We have people running both happily so we really dont have a preference,

I always heard that B&M Fluid was just expensive Type F fluid, nothing special. The Type F fluids have a less slippery additive package that firms up shifts.

Doesn't matter as long as it's Dexron III and NON-SYNTHETIC! I wouldn't put synthetic in my 4L60E if you paid me. I'm trying to NOT burn up the clutches, and minimizing friction in the tranny fluid is a great way to maximize your chances of smoking clutches.

And actually, I hadnt noticed the sticker until I painted the tranny.
Previous to knowing that, I emailed Chuck (at FLT) and asked if I should
run synthetic for improved friction reduction and to prolong the life of
the tranny - I said I didnt care if it costs more, if it's better, I'll run it.
He said to use either. I think it might be a good idea to email Dave at
Yank to see what his thoughts are.

My FLT (not yet installed) has the "Use Dexron III" sticker on the pan.

(hope he doesn't mind me quoting him)
"We do not recommend any types of full synthetic oils - they can be too
slippery. In a motor where you have metal to metal wear that is great
but when you are dealing with friction materials such as clutch plates
and the converter lock-up clutch you can make them too slippery and
have issues.
I would go with the III.

Chuck (FLT) prefers the use of III, but said I can run either. I think
the consensus is to run Dexron III, which is what I'll be running.

what about a mix, say 80% John Deere fluid and 20% Dex III?? I hear to run dex for the anti-slip and anti-foaming additives, and I need to tighten my converter up 150-200 rpms. I'm running a SS4000
