How Do You Know If Your Tc Is Not Locking?
Recently had a new transmission and VIG 2800 TC installed. Had it tuned today and the car is running and pulling GREAT!
I am curious, when I have the cruise on at 60 or 70 mph, which ever ones works with the mph posted, the rpm at times jumps about 150-200 rpm and runs there for a good mile, drops to 1900 and runs there very good and then jumps up to about 2100-2200 rpm and so on. The tranny fluid is fine...I have cooler and was running about 172 degrees. Just feels like the TC is not locking in right.
I mentioned to the tuner that I had this problem, but it was far worse, like 350-400 rpm and he did some magic and things seem fine, but on the trip home it would jump, but only about 100-200 rpm now.
Any ideas? What are some good ways to test it? No codes are being thrown and the temp seems fine and the car really doesn't seem to mind it, just seems a bit odd.
My car is a 2000 vette, H/C and a transmission built by RPM Transmission (aka Rodney and co.) with the VIG 2800.
Thanks in advance,
Micah

Sounds like its locking and unlocking. If the PCM is detecting misfires it will unlock the converter. I'll bet it has to do with your cam and the tune.
It must be a stock transmission and a pretty soft clutch, because in my car you would definetely know when it locks and unlocks even if you had earplugs, just going by the feel.

The transmission is not stock, it is a stage iv setup from RPM, but I will check on the misfire codes.
Dan...do you know what the numbers that were dialed in at from your tune?
Thanks,
Micah

You can have soft slip from inadequate line pressure
or you can have total unlocks from misfires. Way to
tell is, depress the brake just enough to hit the switch
and see if your RPM go even higher (TCC unlocks w/
brake apply). If it's jumpy then it's more likely misfire.
If you can slide it a little more w/ pedal and backing out
slides back down to baseline, more likely slip. Of course
all of this can be logged and see line%, force motor
current, TCC Slip, TCC mode to get authoritative info.

heres what you should have the tech. do, have him plug in the scanner and go for a drive and once you get up to 48 mph have him watch teh scanner and it should tell him when your TC is locking up and disengaging.

Well, my tuner told me yesterday that he thought he cleared all of my misfire codes, but he rechecked and he didn't so he and I are going to get tohergether again and that should fixed the problem. Thanks.
