? about trans problem
Ive got a 4L65E in my 05 GTO. i now have my second fuddle converter in it, the first one had a washer come apart and went through my whole transmission. Fuddle sent me a new one, and i installed it, but didnt think about flushing the lines at the time. a week or so later i had it flushed and filled, and then changed the filter afterwards. when that washer went through my trans it left aluminum on the bottom of the pan, and each time since that ive checked the fluid there has been aluminum on it. now the new converter isnt locking up. ill be doing 40 on the streets and be at 2K rpms, and 2500 @60 on the highway, and theres aluminum on the bottom of the pan. i think i have been able to get it to lockup on the highway if i move it to 3 and then back to D, but i could be wrong and it doesnt happen every time.
I talked to John today and he thinks its not the converter cause i can get it to lockup, he thinks it may be the trans. Hes still gonna replace the verter, but he thinks its ok cause it can still lockup. my old converter did the same sorta thing, where it wouldnt lockup, but if i went to 3 then D it would.
my question, is he right in thinking that the crap left in my lines caused the solenoid to mess up and make it not lockup? or is it history repeating itself?
either way ive got a new trans from performabuilt on its way, im just looking for some insight

last bump
someone has to have some input??
something else ive noticed is that its in 4th, and i let off the gas the RPMs drop to about 1000, and then come back up. this is what happened with the first verter too when it stoped locking up.

Doesn't sound good and your saying that it is doing what the first tc did right before it let loose. Did you have the trans gone back though before you installed the second tc? Or just flushed it?

More than likley you just have another converter failure particularly if you have metal getting in pan again.
We will be sending you some cooler flush with the trans . be sure and use it and then use air to finish blowing out the lines, this generally will clean everything up very well in there.

its a shame but you will have to start all over again - send the convertor out and have it checked and cleaned -- take trans to the screws and hose it out including every valve in the body and all the servos, pressure blow out the cooler or i would change it out and put in or make sure all the lines and the fittings are spotless -- OR you will be doing this again -- jz

john- im gonna remove the cooler when i do the trans, then im gonna install a new one later. john is gonna replace the converter, but its not getting installed. performabuilt is sending me a trans/converter combo, so all im gonna have to do is flush the line.

i havent looked around, so no falming, but do most car parts places sell the line cleaner stuff? i might run 2 of them through to make sure theres no crap in the lines or radiator

for that you will have to hit a trans shop or a trans parts supplier
