Default Lockup speed/tuning

I've had my car tuned for the converter, but there's a couple things i'd like to change. My converter lockups around 42 mph, can I get to tuned to lockup around 35? Also, i've notice that the converter locks up during really light acceleration around 42. Can this be tuned out also? What's everyone else running a 3000+ stall have their lockup set at?

You can tune all of those things.

If you want it to lock at 35mph, DO NOT do it in 4th gear. Have it locked in 3rd gear at 35mph. You will thank me later.

Why in third instead of 4th? Would I need to put it in 3rd for this? The reason I want it to lockup lower is because my car is a daily driver. My daily driving is 6 miles to work one way with about 10 stoplights between my house and work and a 35 mph speed limit. I'm getting shafted with gas mileage. I didn't buy I z28 for gas mileage but 10 mpg is kinda crazy for moderate city driving.

Because your car won't be able to move in 4th gear @ 35mph with a locked torque converter. Try it sometime, the stock tune calls for lockup @ 38mph, and it will unlock if you fall below 35. Try and accelerate out of it...the car will bog so bad you would think you were in 6th gear.

At least mine does, with 3.23 gears. 3rd gear is much more ideal at that speed.

Geez.. yeah 35mph in 4th would be way too low unless you have a 4.10 gear. I've read before that too low of a lockup hurts the converter as well.

mine locks at around 45 in 3rd and 4th/OD at 55. I have a 2.73 gear though. Man if mine was to lockup at 4th I'd be at idle speed.

I have mine locking fairly low. At 34 in fact. It is smooth and
has tolerable torque that low. But this is a stock cam and
3.42s. My unlock/lock line is fairly pedal proportional and
matched to the shifts the way I like.

I do not lock in 3rd at all.

If you are always overrunning the TCC's holding torque
that isn't good for it, and you ought to change your tune
or your converter.

How do you get away with this? With my 3.23's my car has no power and I can't make it up a hill locked under 40mph in 4th gear. It is stuck @ 1000rpm.

It's not like you want to stay locked, if there's a heavy load. You
want to unlock or kick down for powerband. But level cruise, why
not loaf along at 1500 if the motor doesn't complain?

That's the whole point of making everything pedal-proportional
rather than the stock "nothing happens, nothing hapens some
more, then all hell breaks loose" profile.

It's a tweaky thing, it depends on your preferences and the
powertrain. But done right it should feel like a good ol' TH350
vacuum modulated tranny, that knows what your foot is
saying. Only with overdrive.

I had a TransGo shift kit installed (#3 washer), and a Superior billet Super 2-4 Servo, to replace the stock LS6 unit.
