problems with tranny

hey guys , first off i got a tci 3500 stall installed in august , it was working fine until september when it just stopped locking up, well i was trying to find the problem with my mechanic when a few weeks later it started locking again. but now everytime it locks up , if i am hitting gas , it makes a grinding sound but i dont feel anything in my feet . i just hear it and it continues until i let go of the gas. any ideas anyone . by the way it is a 98 z . thanks 4 the input.

I would remove the pan and see what's floating around in there. Sounds like it needs to come out.

I would be looking for debris that might be coming from the tc coming apart. If the pan looks very clean you might have a cracked flywheel or a loose tc bolt. If there is alot stuff in the pan both the trans and tc need to be gone through. Meaning in either case the trans will have to come out. Let FLT know if there is anything we can do for you. Vince

let me also let you know that the tranny was rebuilt at the same time that the stall was installed.

by the way about a year ago when i changed the tranny fluid i noticed i didnt have a magnet in the pan

I have seen plenty without , its ok the magnet does help collect any metalic iron based debris so probably not a bad idea to have one

Be sure to ask about debris in the pan... failed converters have taken out many a good transmission. The debris from the converter can easily find its way into the valve body and other areas... this can lead to internal problems. Specifically though... ask about the condition of the pump. Make sure the bushing is still good to go .. a chattering, grinding converter can be hard on that bushing.
