Default 18 MPG with 4400 stall

I just thought I'd throw this out. I get so many people telling me and others that you're going to get 10-12 MPG with a big stall on the street. I filled up the SS this morning, and I averaged 18 MPG with a 50/50 mix of in-town and highway driving. This is with 3.73's as well. I thought that was pretty good. I would expect 21-22 MPG with all highway driving at 70 MPH. Not too bad for an 11-second car. FYI, my average RPM's before the converter locks up are around 2,500-2,600 RPM, and converter lock-up is at 30 MPH. That certainly helps.

I just wanted to throw this out for those considering a higher stall torque converter.

Thats pretty good! I think this is where all the dreamers pop in that are getting 26 thru 30 mpg with the same mods. I didn't even get that when stock.

The best I've ever gotten in my SS is 25.5 MPG. That was driving to and from Bowling Green, KY last year for the NFRA event. I had the Vig 3200 converter, 3.23's, FLP headers with ORP's, an MTI air lid w/ K&N, and a 3.5" Mufflex catback at the time. It was only rated for 25 on the highway stock, so I was happy.

I think I get around 14 (maybe as much as 16 mpg if I avoid occasional WOT bursts) in-town and about 21 on the highway.

4200 stall, 3.73s, H&C, and lots of weight to drag around.

its the same with my vig3600. I didnt notice hardly any drop in MPG with the mods. Maybe 1-3 if that

I get about 16 with a 50/50 mix, but mine only stalls around 3400 or so. That is with 3.73s, and a cammed 422. I used to get about 18 with a 50/50 mix of highway in town with the M6.

The loss was in highway driving - there I could get about 25 with the 422 cruising in 6th, and now I am no better than 18 or 19.

I'd say that's pretty good for a 422 auto! I'm sure there are other 10-second cars out there that would kill for that kind of mileage.

I can back Weather Guy up with the 16mpg for my daily 50/50 commute in my hungry 422 with the SY-3500. It's been as high as 21 on long highway trips.

Gears make the biggest difference. I only get 20-21 mpg on the highway because of the 3.73 gears. It would be 2-3 mpg higher with 3.23 gears. Around town, I ususally got a 16 mpg mix of city highway driving with my ST3500 and it's now 15 mpg with my Pro Thruster 4000.

Oh, the price of going fast!

My 422/3600/4.10 combo is getting pretty terrible gas mileage I can go thru a 1/2 tank in a day.

How many miles is that about? I'm kind of surprised to see it that low since you have an OD. Maybe it's the 4.10s doing some of the damage

Yep, I've got the PT4200 and all the bolt-ons and in-town(bumper to bumper) traffic, with the A/C on, I get 17+.

My last tank with a 50/50 city/hwy mix and 4 passes at an 1/8th mile track, I got 18.75 mpg.

Are these cars great or what?!?

When I tell my Mustang buddies what kind of mpg it get's they just look down and shake their head. hahaha
