Default tranny / converter problem

Ive got a 99Z A4 with a SY3500 converter , The car is getting a bad Chatter/vibration when the tourqe converter trys to lock and when it does lock it has a strange vibration that comes and goes about every 5 seconds ... It seems to be getting worse , Is it in my conveter or tranny ? I thought only the ST line of yank converter had problems ??????

Thanks ragtop !
1.)No codes
2.)very light throttle is where I notice it the most , mainly when the conveter is trying to lock
3.)it comes and goes once conveter is locked...
4.)my car has Ed wright tuning , mac headers , lid , thats about it , It does have 3.42s it used to be a M6 car ...
5.) tranny has about 30,000 miles conveter about 5,000 miles !

Thanks for your help ! BTW , The car shifts great , no slugish shifts !

could be the converter clutch or could be tranny issues.

1) any ses or pending trouble codes?
2) does it happen under very little throttle or just under heavier load?
3) does it go away at any speed?
4) what other mods and tuning have you done?
5) how many miles on the converter, on the tranny and when did you last change the filter & fluid?

probably the clutch is glazing a bit if it occurs at only very light throttle and goes away once locked and rpms increase.

If your LTRIMS are off, you'll need EW to fix that and ask him to bump your lock-up speed a 2-4 mph so it locks where the presure is a bit higher. Likewise if EW cranked your tranny pressure way up and warped the clutch plate, Yank may not fix it.

If your Ltrims are fine and tranny pressure is normal or slightly raised, call Yank and ask them about it.

Buy a new stick and change the filter too. The converter will likely retain most of its fluid.

Lube guard is worth a shot, but the problem will come back in 5k - 10k miles if there are any tuning issues, so do a quick ATAP check.

Go to AAMCO or NAPA and pick up a pint of Lubeguard for tranny's. Put it in and drive normally. took me e week to clear up the chatter.
Good luck.
