Actually you can, you just have to spend 2 more credits.

I was under the impression the segments could be out of order and taking a tune off another car and directly flashing it to another pcm runs a risk of screwing up the other pcm. I do not realy know, but they say that is not advisable.

4l60 -> 4l80

Can you just re-pin the stock tranny harness and then plug it into the 4l80 instead of buying the Speartech adapter?? If so, what pins do I need to swap??

I will be adding the vss plug too for the iss...

This is for a truck, but it is the same. Just make sure the harness is long enough.

We just swapped a 2003 4l80e into my 99 TA this weekend. Though I still have some items to finish up before I can test drive it, I have to say it has been the easiest physical swap I have been involved with to date.

The tunnel was clearanced for the big plug and for the rear cooler line. The two ears were cut off the transmission and were smoothed out. We used a BMR crossmember and the Speartech adapter cable. I cut the two stock cooler lines up by the starter and connected them up to the 4l80e cooler ports. I am simply going to go from the hardline to 6an braided and add a B&M cooler up front, leaving the radiator cooler inline also.

We used an FTI conveter that Greg spec'd out for us and on the outside it looks to be a very nice piece. It bolted right up to the stock flywheel with the bolts that were supplied with the converter. I cannot wait to be at a traffic light and not have to use both feet on the brake because I have a H/C car and a stock converter. lol

Looks like the stock shifter bracket can be moved from the 60e to the 80e with little issue. We had to drill out the bolt holes for the braket to get it to fit the 80e bolt pattern. A little adjustment on the cable and I think we will be good to go there.

I still need to change my front u-joint, finish the cooler lines, connect the ISS to the ECM and update my tune with the new 4l80e tables. I hope to get that done during this coming week. If all is good I should be able to post back soon with an update.

Being able to access a lift and a trans jack make this a real easy job. We finally bolted the transmission up for good on the 4th trial fit. I am not sure I would have gotten this far if I tried this in my driveway.

I would like to thank Chris (GTFormula) and Kevin for all there help on the installation. Great friends make for great projects!

so all I will need to go from an M6 to an 4L80E wiring/tuning wise is to flash the PCM w/ a truck file, send the file to HPtuners to modify? using the LSX tune wiring adapter? meaning I don't need to get a 4l60E harness?

basically to go from M6 I need the lsxtune adapter, a reflash on the PCM, and it to be modified by HPtuners correct?

Correct... pinning in the LSXtune harness was literally the easiest part of this swap.... I dreaded doing it but once I pulled the PCM out and started doing it it was a cake walk, you dont have to remove/splice anything... just push through all the new stuff into the stock harness plugs. The hardest part was routing the harness away from the headers... which was easy.

X2 wiring up the tranny as easy as pie. Took about 20 minutes. FYI you can use a 4L60 harness, but it needs to be repinned like above, and add an ISS sensor. The only thing I would worry about using a car 4L60 harness is the length (the 4L80e pin is on the farther side of the tranny). I know the lsxtune T56 > 4L80 harness works, that's what I have.

You'll want the 36" one.

The 24" one is too short and will make filling the trans a PIA. But it will work.

I tell ya, the 36" one is tough to read. I think fluid pools in the horizontal part of the tube and clouds the reading. The shorter one will be harder to fill but it might give a more accurate reading.

Also, I am confused about the Transgo shift kits available. There are a few variations on Summit that are shown. Also, it appears that the shift kits are dependent on the year transmission. All of the kits don't show 2001+ transmissions in their application area.

Hmm doing my swap soon. t56 to 4l80. Trans is ordered from RPM basically top of line build just no transbrake figured don't need transbrake car is not race car. They install shift kit too and said want streetable shifts.
Got everything think need. Did get that longer lokar dipstick . Got conversion harness for t56 to 4l80. flexplate from speed inc. Got my hptuners set up to run the 4l80e. Some arp bolts for flexplate and converter.
Got yank py3400e stall. Got pedals from auto and shifter from auto.Still need to mess maybe on my drivshaft but thats because have dana 60.4l80 requires turbo 400 yoke? but normal length. The dana requires shorter length driveshaft.
I got bmr crossmember ,torque arm and of course it mounts on crossmember.
So think thats everything hopefully the swap will go good. I am sick of standards.Sick of clutches and clutch hydraulics.Oh got external tranny cooler also.

I used the 36" Lokar without issue so far. I have not noticed the issue reading it yet, but there are so many variables on any installation.

I was out messing with mine yesterday and came to the conclusion that the only way I can get a decent reading is if no fluid has been added within a few hours. This way there is less residual fluid in the tube.

So that's not too bad. I mean the car sits, you check it every so often, check it before you drive the car. I'm gonna get the 36" one to have some flexibility when installing/mounting it.
