There both 4 speed automatics. The 700 was equipped in the older f-bodies, not sure about the vette's. The 200 was equipped in the Grand Nationals. The 200 is a better tranny because you can modify it more than the 700 tranny. Otherwise stock, I think they both sucked azz. The 200 is really expensive when you get all the options on it. It's my understanding though that you can get the 200 to handle up to 900 lbs. of Tq. That amount of Tq is not going to happen with the 700 or the 4L60E

Running the 200-4R. So far have made five passes on it (one nitrous), and about 2000 good miles on it now too. Transmission shifts brutally firm, and not even a hint of griping under the torque so far.

The 200-4R has different gear ratios than the 700-R4. Ratios in the 200 are 2.74, 1.57, 1.00, and 0.67. Actually pretty good spacing between them for racing.

I have so far found only two weaknesses to the transmission: 1) you need to manually shift it when racing, or else the shift points are too low, and 2) it is expensive to get one that is well-built. Other than that, I am so far very impressed with it.

Edit: listed wrong first gear ratio.

I have a 700 in the 82' vette and the cars 20 years old and its just starting to slip (never really raced it. and ive seen them up to 500ft/lbs so thats pretty good. I think theyre both good trany but it cost a lot to build em up. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

finicky deal on this tranny (as I recall
from reading the GN-TTYPE board many years
ago). If you've adapted it to the LS-1 then
maybe it wants either cable adjustment or a
modification to the cable lever arm so that
the TV cable is fully pulled at WOT.

The 200-R4 is popular for TH-350 cars because
it's dimensions are close enough for you to get
by without a new driveshaft and its output
takes the same yoke. It also has a dual pattern
bell housing so it bolts up. And, it needs no
electronics to work; it's the last of the "old
school", standalone, AOD transmissions for GM.
