stall suggestions?
I'm looking for a pretty cheap but good stall for my 99 Trans Am. I was wondering what brand and rpm stall would be good for my car. I am looking for a good streetable stall (a lot of in town driving) nothing that will absolutely kill my gas mileage and will work well with the 3.73's I already have installed.
thanks in advance for any suggestions.
edit:
this is still going to be my daily driver but i want to make it to the track a few times this summer that is why i am wanting to get the TC
mods are in sig if those really make a big difference on which stall to go with
thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Id reccomend performabuilts custom 9.5 inch race stalls. I got a 3k stall for my t/a with stock 3.23 and i think im gonna really enjoy it. everyone gonna shove a big stall down your throat and claim its "streetable" but that term is pretty loose around so thats jsut a ehads up for ya.
Our converters are very efficent some test show 96 percent unlocked, So even in the 3000 3500 range they are very streetable average STR though its a subjective number IS 1.69 TO 1.9 Lower numers are more efficent

I am using a SS4000 and it works for me. Streetable means different things to different people. Higher stall TC's will not drive like stock like some claim. It takes more pedal movement to get the car moving the higher the stall rating. I have used 3000, 3600 and 4000 Stall converters and the 3000 was the most streetable, obviously. With 3.73's, you can go with a higher stall. All depends if you want a strip car and trying to squeeze every tenth from the car. The best thing to do is drive higher stalled cars and get a feel for what it is like. Like I said, I have a 4000 and most people that drive my car are not a fan of it. I would venture to guess that a 3000-3200 would do you real nice. I am a big fan of Yank and you know where my support goes

its not ahrd dude, its jsut a bit time consuming your first time. you can do it, theres several good write-ups for you to look over.
my yank ss3600 is very streetable and awesome at the track too...times in sig...also it is very very tight on the street on takes around 2200 rpms to keep up with traffic...would really look into a good converter...one thing you shouldn't really go cheap on...

3000: $600
3500: $625
4000: $645
4500: $665
5000: $695
5500: $745
Thats a good question but its also determined by marketing not by me . I will ask about it and see what the answer is . I am sure they have there reasoning however. But even so the overall prices from top to bottom are quite reasonable I would say. I willask about that tomorrow however

I have a 3000 tci, I like it no problems so far. I think the stall was 4oo to 450, 90$ for the trans cooler. I bought all the fluids and stall and the guy did mine for 300$. I also bought a adj. torque arm and let him put that on while he had it half way off anyway.
I have a Yank SS4000 and it is very streetable, but then again it all depends on what u want. I wound not get any thing smaller than a 3000. If you get a Yank get an SS version. I was always told it better to do it right the first time and be done with it!!! You get what you pay for!!!!
Actually I did speak with the department that handles pricing , Heres what they said,
While we could price all the units high as some others do and have a one price for all stalls it was not needed, We aquire all our parts stators.turbines shells etc from SONNAX,GM,RAYBESTOS , The pricing is apparently not always the same for all these parts for various stalls, They have a margin set for each stall and while some parts such as the shells are always the same price others though close are not. Though they didnt give me great detail of cost break down per unit. That was there answer. I think however looking the prices we have for what we offer from top to bottom are quite reasonable, I did note from looking at other sites that some do the one price for all stall speeds but also noted they were typically much higher, I would imagine they have set there pricing structure to encompass all stalls and there associated cost into a single price, they make a little more on some a little less on others, Personally I wish ours was set up the same since I have to administer the website and do price changes ect having a one price for all would make my life much easier. But again I do marketing ,website administration and tech support, I dont set prices, I imagine they have some method to there madness as they say on the way they have it set up. But again I think all our prices on converters are very reasonable for what they are, All new parts, No used v6 converter cores restalled and with a 1 year replacement waranty which is from what I can read one of the best in the bussiness,
I know this may not be as detailed and answer as you may have liked but hope it answers some of your questions .

I find that hard to believe that the materials your company uses to make them stall higher or lower has a variable cost. Do you offer restalls if a customer is not happy with the first converter? For example, if John Doe buys a 5000 converter for $695, decides it is way loose, and sends it back to get restalled to a 3500, do you give him $70 back for the difference between the converters? I think you guys are the only sponsor on here that charge different amounts for the stall sizes. Different design (regular case vs billet cover) I can see, but not stall size.
