Default th350 or 400 conversion

I have an A4 now and am considering the swap. could you please tell me everthiny that is needed. I have access to both a 350 and 400 that I can have built with a manual valvebody and all the stuff to make it stronger. My main concern right now is all the extras needed.
different driveshaft or modified? if so how?
crossmember, i see bmr makes one can i modify the existing? any instructions on that?
what about a torque converter? do i get one that fits a th400 or is something special required? what about the flexplate?
also what about the dipstick?
is there anything i am leaving out????
thanks!!!

I did the swap. Where in Orlando are you. Maybe we can meet up so you can check the car out. I swapped from an M6 but the only real difference is that you'll need some PCM programming to delete the A4 stuff from the PCM.

I have the dipsticks in stock for either trans. Give me a hollar and I can give you some advice or sell you the whole kit. 281-449-8833

The TH350 can be made as tough as the TH400, but for more $$$. The TH400 is heavier, so that is a decision for you to make, weight or reliability.
The A4 crossmember can be modified very easily.
Get the dipstick from Madman
You will need a standard TH400/350 convertor.
The flexplate can be done several ways. My convertor was built to fit the stock flexplate.
You will need a different driveshaft, and tranny yoke.
If you go with a standard shift pattern tranny, you can use your stock shifter.
You can use your stock cooler lines.
You don't HAVE to get the codes deleted from the PCM, but you WILL have a constant SES light if not.

Actually you will probably still have the SES light even if you turn off all of the DTC's related to your 4l60E. LS1 EDit does not fix this. It advertises that it does, but it does not. Carputing Inc. has no idea why and has showed no concern about it or plans to fix it. Just a heads up.

Thank you for the info I am leaning towards the 400 as it is cheaper and cost is a big concern. I believe I know of a place that will build a converter to my specs suchas the ls1 bolt pattern. I have a ST 3500 right now the car is a daily driver with 3.23 gears I am running 315 nittos as well and love the way the car launches on the street, does the 400 have roughly the same ratio in first as the a4?. I was considering a 3000-3500 stall again I plan on running 100-150 shot of nitrous.
does the th-400 just bolt up in place of the a4?and just to go over it again i need the following:

dipstick
new driveshaft or modify existing
th400
th400 style converter
drill holes in flexplate or get moddeed converter
modify my crossmember
a new shifter

MacGyver I would like to meet up and check out your set up. send me an e-mail.

Rob is correct with the 1st gear ratio in the TH400. you will lose a little going to it. I have a 2.75 first gear in mine and it was like 480 bucks extra for it. you CAN get a 3.0x first gear for it but I hear they are really weak parts and break often. Email is on the way mobius.

You can't flash an m6 file onto a PCM with the tuner version of LS1-Edit. It requires a Tech II to do so. Thunder has looked into one and doesn't have it so your claim is wrong. I have my VIN locked version of LS1-Edit and a th400 and I don't have many miles on the setup but no SES yet.

How the hell am I suppose to know why it does not work? Simply put, I have turned off 8 DTC codes. 2 of them still show up all the time. Yeah Tim my car moves I twisted a puny aluminum driveshaft playing with my transbrake. Now all I need to do is get a new one made. My Spohn driveshaft I ordered was too short and they won't call me back afer I've left several messages. Imagine that huh. I don't need any measurements I do them all the time. But thats another story

They are definately turned off. Ken at Carputing has seen it, but offers no solution.
