Help Taking Off 4l60e Help!!
Doing a tranny swap on a 98 LS1 T/A. I'm try get the stock 4L60E out and cant seem to get it out. I have removed all the bolts including the ones from the torque conv. to flywheel. Tranny still wont come off. Any ideas what it could be.

The dowel pins are bad to get stuck try a little PB blaster , Or if your real carefull some heat on them but I stress being carefull stuff can burn under there at the very least I would have a garden hose or other way to put out a fire quickly available , But try soaking in the PB blaster first and a bit of wiggling on the tail of the trans,

I thought I was gonna rip the whole damn motor out I was shaking my trans so hard the first time I took it out. I put some antisieze on the dowel pins when I R&R now and it comes off pretty easy.

the dipstick is unbolted and out of the tranny so I think it might be the dowel pins. I just blasted them and I'll let it sit overnight for now. I can't think of anything else. I pulled 7 trans to engine bolts out and I took out the three bolts holding the converter to the flywheel, is there anything else you think other than the dowel pins? thanks

I looked and I definitely see holes for 8 but there were only 7 for some reason. maybe somebody has messed with this before. My TA was an earlier built 98 if that might have something to do with it. I haven't got the oil cooler lines off yet, I was gonna wait till the tranny drops a bit first. Could they be putting the pressure on the tranny?

i'm not sure then, I'm gonna try to pry it off tomorrow morning. I'll check the bolts again. It's weird, perhaps I have a different bellhousing but I don't have a bolt at 12 or 6 o'clock for some reason. Mine are more like at 10 and 2 o'clock on the top and bottom.

maybe they gave me an lt1 bellhousing or something. Plus the new tranny I got sitting here has the 12 o'clock bolt holes like you're talking about. I hope I can swap the bellhousing from my old tranny to my new one or I guess it won't bolt up there right.

Please before you attempt the installation take a pick of the inside of bell and the front of trans without the converter in it and post up . Or send it to my performabuilt@yahoo.com address something sounds wrong.

there are clips inside o the plastic covers just get a pick and gently pry the clip out when reinstalling put the clip back in first you will see how it goes the place where the clip rides has three slots just line the clip up on those slots so the legs fall in the slots when you push it on and then just push the line in and it will clip in

To seperate my transmission I had to use a tie-down strap that I use for my truck. We wrapped it around the tailhousing/torque arm bolts and looped it around the rear end. Then ratched it until it pulled free. The dowels were siezed. I cleaned them up and put anti-seize on em, now the trans. comes out easy.

alright, I got the tranny out finally and did the swap. It was a 12 o'clock bolt, I just couldn't see it before to save the life of me. My dowel pins were pretty stubborn too. The bellhousing they sent me was different too but it seemed to work other than that it was too short and now my trans mount doesn't line up perfectly anymore.
