Patrick, do you have times on the new convertor? What were your 60fts?

What effect on stall and shift extension do gears have?

If shift extension is 5000, does that mean it's 5000 with 2.73s and 4.56s? If not please explain the difference the gears make.

Gears make very little difference on shift extension. Engine torque, on the other hand will. If you get 5000 rpm shift extension with a heads/cam 346, you might only get 4800 with a stock LS1 and maybe 5400 rpms with a 422.

Orange Krush,

The SS 3800 works really well on nitrous, I would chose that one. My car is my daily driver and I spray the hell out of it.

Pewter'00Z28,

No times on the new converter. It's been raining in Houston for weeks!

wm_sorg,

You will not lose top end with the SS3600. Actually, you should pick up top end because your motor will always be closer to peak hp and torque than it would be with the stock converter. The SS 3600 will be a pussycat with your small cam and gear selection. You'll love it (although you may want to consider bumping up to the 3800)

02 Silver Z,

Mike at Yank can make the Super Stock converter into a 4200, no problem. Give him a call at 479-632-6355.

I ordered an SS3800 last night. I wanted a ST3500, and then Mike stopped making them. This new SS3800 looks to be a great product. Price was $895 plus shipping.

Patrick - I currently run the Y3200 and really like it; it's a good all around converter (especially on the hwy) but need better 60 fts. I like the SS3600 but am worried about streetability with too much looseness. What kind of ET gains will I see? Thanks in advance.

BLKTA,

The Vig 3200 stalls 3600-3800 behind an LS1. Swapping to a SS 3600 would gain you very little in my opinion. The drivability is so sweet with my SS 3800, I wouldn't consider getting anything less than it. If you really want to see your 60' times drop, then consider a SS 4000. Just be prepared to have good tires!

Sorry, my bad. You will pick up about 2-3 tenths by going to the SS 3800 over the Y 3200. That's a much bigger jump than going from a Vig 3200. Seriously consider the 3800 vs the 3600. It's very tame in my car.

Default Re: Come see the new Yank Super Stock converters!

Is there really that much a diff between the two?
My can runs mid 12's all day and the 60 ft is the same for Nittos and ET's streets (too much tire?).
I'm looking for a bigger "hit" for launches, but really don't want to loose top end; is that realistic or possible with the SS3800? Can I lose the trans cooler if I get the SS3800 due to it's increased efficiency?

Also, is cost the same for the two?

Thanks for your help.

ET Streets are too much tire for a Y3200 but probably ideal for a SS3800.

you can not loose cooler. All high stall cars should have a cooler.

Price is the same.

You will drop ET (2-3 tenths) and gain mph (1-2) by swapping from the Y3200 to the SS3800. Won't show up on the dyno, but it sure will at the track. Yes, it's that much better.

How will the SS3800 compare to say.. the PT4400 in an all motor run at the track. I assume on spray the 4400 would be too much and the SS3800 would take the cake there. But how does the SS3800 stack up to "ultimate NA converter" as some call it? How bout from a roll as well?

Thanks

The YTP 4400 is still the NA King when your $$$ are on the table and the tree is coming down. Same story from a roll.

It is not a very nitrous friendly converter.

alexWS6,

No track times have been posted yet, but from what I've found, the SS3800 should 60' within .05 of the PT4400, but after that it begins to fall behind. See, the PY4400 has really high shift extension, which keeps the motor way high in its powerband. Let's say you have a heads/cam motor that shifts at 6600 rpms. On the SS3800, the 1-2 shift would drop your rpms to 4900-5000, whereas the PT4400 would only drop the shifts to 5700-5800 rpms. Most LS1s make more power at 5800 then they do at 5000, so the PY4400 keeps the motor in its sweet spot longer. The motor is always closer to peak hp.

Same goes when racing from a roll. Let's say you're at the bottom of 2nd gear (35mph) and you whack the gas. The SS3800 will jump to 4600 rpms, where the PT4400 will go all the way to 5500 rpms! This makes the Pro Thruster stronger from a roll, but worse on nitrous.

Bottom line, SS3800 is only .05-.10 second and 1 mph slower than the PT4400. When every tenth counts, the Pro Thruster is the bomb, but for heads/cam nitrous junkies, the SS3800 is a better choice. A better choice for daily drivers too.

FWIW - I have the PT4200 in my car and it' VERY daily drivable. Stock tuning, no line pressure(per Mike at Yank), and no shift kit(per Mike as well).

No problems, no SES lights, and about 5,000 miles with no issues. I've got 3.42's which helps. I just keep it in 3rd(D) unless I'm on the highway and that's it.

Yank rocks!

Patrick: On a NA, stock cammed, stock headed, '02 bolt-on car, will the SS3600-3800 need major computer tuning, or will shiftpoint changes via HPP3, etc. do the trick? 3.23's. Thanks. WJ.
