Could mike change my TP-4400 2.7 STR conv. to a SS-3800? And if so what cost do you think it would be? I like the hard hit of my TP that i get but its my everyday driver and i'm just stock internal. Do you think i would leave much on the table? TIA Patrick..

Mike can change your YPT4400 into a SS3800 for a nominal cost. It will perform identically except the Pro Thruster has the more expensive Kevlar clutch...lucky you!!

You're telling me this converter is better than a PT4000? I don't see how but please explain this to me. I'm about to put a PT4000 in next week.

The Super Stock 3800 is a very different converter from a Pro Thruster 4000. In a drag race or racing from a roll with a naturally aspirated motor, the YPY4000 will pull ahead of the SS3800. It's better in that application. It's also very loose. For an old man like me, the street manners of a converter are very important in a daily driver. But, when running a heads/cam car with a big shot of nitrous, the SS3800 is a much better choice than the YPT4000.

Let's put it this way: The SS3800 would be within 1 tenth of the YPT4000 in a quarter mile race on motor, but it would probably be 2 tenths faster than the Pro Thruster on a 150 shot. So I guess it depends what you value more.

Ultimate performance on motor: Pro Thruster 4000

Great street manners and strong on nitrous: SS3800

Default Re: Come see the new Yank Super Stock converters!

Because the converter is still so new and parts are not as easily obtainable as the old stuff, there will be no group purchases on the Super Stock Converters.

A Yank Super Thruster and Pro Thruster converter can be converted to run the advanced 21 blade stator for a reasonable cost, but because they would lack the larger 258mm heavy duty clutch and the lighter billet cover that the new Super Stock converters have, they wouldn't be exactly the same. You would get the performance advantage, but not the other new stuff...at least not for as cheap a price as a stator change.

OK Patrick, I'm running a PYE3600 on a head/small cam (216/220), Hooker L/T, 3.23 geared, no power adder car because of lock up issues with the ST3500/ST3800 converter I had. I want my shift extension back I had with the ST's. Now you are saying the SS series is also for power adder cars. Exactly what will be different with a SS3500 or SS3800 over what I am running now. My car slowed down about .4 and 2 mph going from the ST3800 to the PYE3600. Is this still not the right converter for me? I don't think I can live with a 4000 stall. All my racing is at the track on ET Streets, no racing from a roll at all. I also have a set of 3.73's that I may or may not install. Thanks.

Default Re: Come see the new Yank Super Stock converters!

OK, here's my thoughts on the SS3800 vs the ST3500 (which was my previous favorite of all my converters).

Stall speed: The higher stall speed and higher STR of the SS3800 will launch the car harder than the ST3500. Probably a .05 improvement in 60' time.

Shift extension: 4900-5000 with the ST3500 and 4900-5000 with the SS3800. So even though the 21 blade stator of the SS brings the shifts down harder than the Super Thruser stator, you are starting with 300 rpms of more stall to begin with.

Drivability: Same. The higher STR of the SS3800 gives it nearly identical street manners as the ST3500, even though it stalls higher.

Gears: you may not need to go to more gear since the shift extension is back up where you liked it with the ST3500.

Patrick,

Does the new SS3600/3800 replace the ST/SY line of converters or are they an additional model to choose from. I'm realy liking the look of the SS3800

I wouldn't expect it to replace the SY series since that is a low STR design for street use or those not running ET streets / slicks.

Guys,

T Byrne has not gotten authorization from Yank to sell SS converters on a group purchase. Don't get your hopes up on the huge price reduction.

Taking money is easy. Actually getting the product to sell at that price is another thing. I don't see this GP happening. T Byrne may have to raise the price or call off the GP.

We got a call from Yank a few days ago. They said this converter isn't available yet so I took it off of the GP list.

Thanks,

That SS3800 sounds pretty cool. Will Yank custom build a SS in the 4200 range based on the new 21 blade design? If they would, about how much extra would it cost? And thanks Patrick for keeping us up-to-date! Only problem is you`ve made it even harder for me to decide which one (converter) to go with!!!

Hi Patrick,

I am interteted in the SS3600. I will be running in a 2001 LS1 with a 214 or 216 cam and 3.24 gears.

How is the drivability? Is this too much stall for my application. The car is going to be a daily driver?

I need something that can allow me to get the best mileage possible. Also I would not like to loose any top end speed.

Thanks for your help.
BILL
