Default Stall ??? cooler???

hey guys, i just installed a Fuddle Torque converter http://www.fuddleracing.com/ . I got the 3600 stall with the 2.2 STR. I hear that it is absolutely necessary to get a cooler for it. is this true? i have a friend with the exact same stall and he has had it for a year and has had nothing but good luck with it with no cooler. can i get by just as he did? opinions appreciated.

Hell yea, I would get one. Its cheap insurance. Get a guage as well, it would be nice to know if you are cooking your tranny... I would get a cooler and a tranny temp guage!

I have a 4K fuddle and even with the "hot" minnesota weather, it gets 200+ in temp in traffic (which I try to avoid) and this is with my fans on.. I could only imagine the Texas heat!

I would have to say the cooler should be a no-brainer in any thing that you put a higher stall speed converter into !! What would be a reason not to ????????????? JOHN

While its true the additional heat created by the converter will not do damage imediatley but rather over a longer term In the form of cooking the fluild causing it to break down prematurley and hardening seals and you may be able to drive for quite some time without issue, Its a good idea to get one. Why wouldnt you want one? As mentioned above. It does not have to be and expensive one the basic principle is the same some are a little more efficient than others but having one even a cheap one is good insurance to help the trans have a longer life.

Yes. $ 50 is not alot of money to keep your trans around longer.

And while your at it, get the ~60 dollar guage to monitor it. It has helped me out to monitor it at the track, and on teh street.

I have two B&M 24K Supercoolers. In 100* heat and stop-and-go traffic, depending on how "spirited" I drive, the temps' get to around 185 to 195*. Typically, it'll run about 180* during regular street driving in the summer and about 160 in the winter if I drive it long enough.

Get a cooler IMHO.

As far as the guage, it's not hard at all. Crawl under the car to screw the sender into the tranny case, run the wire to the guage, tap a power source, and wire the guage. It DEFINATELY helped me appreciate and learn how hot trannys get with a big stall.

Good luck.

that is actually a pretty easy guage to install.. Pretty straight forward.

Mine will heat up in traffic, then as soon as I get going and the verter locks up, it will drop down to 140 or so.. the winter, when there is no snow, it doesnt even get over 100.

I would highly recommend you spend the extra $50 for the tranny cooler.

We also absolutely recommend getting a cooler for it. We even recommend coolers for stock converters, just to be safe.
