vig3200 vs ss3600. 1. differences in 60ft and other general performance?
2. differences in driveability?
3. which will be easier to hook with? on either 255 bfg's or 26/11.5/16 e.t. streets havent decided.
this is for my daily driver. i was set on the vig but then the ss converters came out and theyre supposed to run hard and be driveable but they are also like 300 bucks more than the vig is. people whove run both converters would be most helpful but all opinions are welcome. is the ss3600 worth that 300 dollars?

1. 60' times should be slightly better on the SS3600/3800 due to its harder hit to the tires.
2. Driveability should be better on the SS3600 and around the same on the SS3800 due to the higher STR of the SS converters.
3. The Vig will be a little kinder to the tires because of it lower STR, but if you're looking for the best 60' time, they are ususally inversely proportional to kindness to tires, LOL! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
Last time I checked, retail price on a Vigilante 3200 was $750 and it was $895 for the Yank SS3600/3800. When comparing retail to retail, that's only a $145 premium for the Yank. With that premium, you get a larger 10.5" clutch with a pure carbon lining vs. a 9.0" clutch with a paper lining. You get higher top-end efficiency due to the tighter tolerances of the Yank build process and the unique 21 blade stator. So in a nutshell, if better 60' times, better drivability, better rwhp, and better clutch operation are worth the price increase, then you are a Yank candidate. Oh, by the way, get the SS3800, it's not noticably looser than the 3600, but it's better at launching the car hard.

TR had a Yank ST3500, liked it('til he had clutch issues), then had a Vig 3200, liked it even more(but then had tranny problems), now has a Yank SS3800 and like it best of all. Re: vig3200 vs ss3600. thats good info thanks alot. i got that 300 bucks from the fact that tbyrne motorsports sells a vig, shift kit and tranny cooler for 840 bucks and the ss is 895 plus about 150 for the two accessories. im not really a serious drag racer yet because the car is a daily driver plus i cant really afford too many broken parts. will i have a problem on e.t. streets with the stock rear and this converter?

Re: vig3200 vs ss3600. The SS3800 is still in my car and is doing fine, nothing new (good or bad) to report...
I'm still LS1-Editing the shift and lockup points of the trans and converter to get them where I like them, but that's just a personal preference thing.
With any luck I'll be able to hit the track this weekend with some decent tires this time. The BFG DR's that I used last time out just don't cut it on my setup now.

Re: vig3200 vs ss3600. do you think 255 bfg's will hold up with this converter and my mods? ill take a tenth loss at the track for piece of mind over e.t. streets.

Re: vig3200 vs ss3600. Go with the Yank SS3800 you will love it and be happy and have no second guessing on what you should've done. I love my daily drivin Z with the SS3800. No issues whatsoever.

Re: vig3200 vs ss3600. I had my SS3800 installed this week and I love it. Haven't really had a chance to hammer it yet, but the street manners are great. Took my mom for a ride and driving normal, she really couldn't even notice the change. I am very happy with it. Can't wait until the weather gets better and I get done with the 150 break in miles.

Re: vig3200 vs ss3600. Of those 3 converters, the SS3800 would be the best from a roll. It has higher efficiency than the Vig 3200 and its higher stall would help edge it over the SS3600.
All those converters would get smoked by a YPT4000 from a roll though...I mean SMOKED!

Re: vig3200 vs ss3600. What about street ability? Im looking to go with either the vig 3200 or the ss3600? I drive about 500-600 miles a week and want no problems with the transmission. What do you guys do you think? I talked to MTI and they said no one they know of has the ss3600 installed and so they cant give me any answers to how the stall converter will act.
