Default Car sucks from a 60-70mph roll

Alright guys. I've been playing with my car some from a roll and I'm not real pleased with it right now. From a 60-70 mph roll it will flash to about 3700-3800(going off the stock tach so who knows) and start pulling pretty well, but nothing like it would if it would drop down a gear.

Its got a SS3600 Yank. I just for the life of me can't get it to drop a gear and really start moving out. Is this just a tuning issue, is it b/c of the 3.23's or what? Help me out folks

Little of both....with 3.23's you should top out 2nd at ~70-75 MPH with stock shift points. 60 is getting real close to that. You can have it adjusted in the tune to drop at that speed but it would almost immediately shift into 3rd again. Probably not the best for your tranny. 40 rolls are the sweet spot for 2nd!

So I guess I'm just gonna have to live with it. Oh well. I have found that just before I punch to blip the throttle and then punch it pulls sooo much better.

Mine sucks at 40 also. Now 30-35 hold on. It will give the drag radials a work out!

Something doesn't sound right. When I had my ST3500, 40 rolls were awesome. With the SS4000 they were even better. Now with the PT4400, 50 and below is a fight for traction.

if i remeber right, with 3.23's it hits 6000rpm at 86mph. it might be in the tune. i had someone screw up my tune before, the person set 2-1 shift to be at <10mph, not the normal 30 something

^^Maybe 2.73's. With my current setup, shifting at 6700 was ~93 MPH. 6000 was 70-75.

Well after some more investigative work, this thing does have 2.73's. Which also helps to explain why it was such a turd at the track yesterday.

Borrowed a GPS from work and sure enough the speedo is off about 4-5 mph. So after knowing that and playing around so this weekend, it does hit good from a roll unlike I was talking about earlier.

Ya a stalled auto really isn't going to be that great from a roll. Just part of it .

That's odd, I've always heard that it helps from a roll too.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

As for the original post, I'm an A4 with 3.23's and a 60 roll seems to be where my car pulls the best. I guess that could have something to do with the tune I got though.

Helps from a roll as well, puts you and keeps you in the power.

My car is stock stall with 3.42's outback and anything 55-70 is a real good hit. I would only think a converter would help out with the shift extension.

Definitely throw some 3.73's in... I did this past weekend with the stock stall and just a lid, and the car is much more funner to drive. Don't have the funds for a nice stall right now, so I decided to do gears first even though people say you should do the stall first. I had 2.73's also, so I feel your pain. They are sluggish!

I couldn't do a burnout on a dry pavement with the 2.73's. I haven't tried it with the 3.73's yet, but I will soon they sure spin from a dead stop now.

I'm having my 3.73s and Auburn posi put in this sat and I'll head to the track Sunday to see what kind of improvement I get.

I've always liked stalled autos from a roll, I think they're better than a manual imo.

But like I said earlier, now that I know where I actually need to be speed wise(sine the speedo is off) to get a good jump, its much better

Well mine was untuned, but still when i hit mine from a 60 it would flash but it didn't feel like it was pulling nowhere near as hard as it did with the stock stall in it.
