Exclamation Transmission Advice Please!!!

Ok so i drove my car with flashers on and everyting.. to a mechanic shop close by... going about 20mi an hour for 3miles haha... get to the shop they quote me a price at 2,086$ for a rebuilt transmission at 2/24k mile warranty or 2,390$ for 3/100kmi warranty... Um i dont have over 2k to drop on a transmission fix... I have a 1999 v6 automatic transmission firebird... I love my car to death, my family thinks i should fix it and try to find cheaper than 2k... and then sale it get a more reliable car.. the thing is i love firebirds I would hate to sell my car... shes at 135k now... never had any other probs except headlight motor failure... and when I had to replace the rear diff.... What do you guys think I should Do.. I really need some more opinions... and what is a good price to pay to repair my transmission problem?????? Advice needed asap...

Thanks Megan P.

Make sure whatever shop you take it to has a good reputation. $2065 is what I paid to have mine rebuilt for my V8 and that was shipping my trans to IL from GA and back.

It would make no sense to get any kind of rebuild from "Bob's Random-*** Transmission Shop" when you can get a performance transmission from a board sponsor for hundreds less. You can get the most basic performance transmission from any board sponsor for under $1500 and by the time you get it installed, you'll still be saving money and have a much stronger tranny that shifts harder and faster.

Again, why pay that much for a stock rebuild when you can get a performance tranny for the same price? Performabuilt said he's running a special and it's even cheaper than that. A stock rebuilt never lasts as long as the transmission originally. If you get one from Performabuilt, you're getting a totally cleaned out and reworked tranny with stronger internal parts and faster, crisper shifts.
