Default A4 Hard to shift from park

Okay guys, i have searched on here for this problem. At first I thought it was the brake lock out thing, un-hooked it. Works better but every morning it is really hard to press the button in to shift from park, its the only one giving me trouble. I have read on here some people put grease on something and it fixed it. My question is what do I grease? let me know if you need any additional info

by the way, its a 1998 trans am A4.

Thanks in advance.

start useing your e brake when u park the car, press brake put it in park then rip e barke then release brake, this will keep your car from getting worse,

When you turn the steering wheel and it locks, is it hard to unlock it when you put the key back in to start it?

No the car dosen't move. Its just really hard to get the button in, once I do it seems okay for the rest of the day. Usually just hard after it has sat for the night.

Steering wheel is fine, no issues.

I know that people were greasing something under the upper console in the middle.

My cousin had that same issue with his 95 camaro and we never figured it out. He ended up giving it to his aunt so we never looked into it after that.

Definitely do this. Once you do it for a week, it'll be second nature. I usually put the car in neutral so there's no load on the drivetrain, (hold the brake pedal) pull the ebrake, release brake pedal, put it in park and call it good. I had the same problem with it being hard to push in the button, it's because the tranny is locked against the parking pawl.

I had this problem..I believe it's the shifter itself..Trans Shop fixed it 4 me when my trans took a dump..For about 2 yrs I would just leave the car in Neutral with the key in the car...I would just put a hat in the steering column so no-one could see the key..Ghetto I know but I live in a safe area & the alarm was on, no worries..If u have a garage even better. Trust me, it's the shifter..It's a piece about 8" long(I think), I never bothered to save it.

probably the shifter and start using your e-brake, that's the only reason my trans has lasted.

I don't live in the best area so I will not be able to do the e brake thing. Will it just continue to get worse until it won't work?

Yes, It will get worse like mine did...I had to use both hands to pop that button in, most times I couldn't do it
