Default Torque Converter install ISSUE!!

Not doing a swap or anything, simple bolting my 4l60-e back in to break in a new motor. I installed it once and my converter wouldnt spin when i went to bolt it to the flywheel, so i dropped the tranny again thinking i didnt seat the stall all the way. Well i am almost positive i have it seated, but it still wont spin 360 degrees. It will spin maybe 40 degrees or so then feels like it hits a brick wall. If i pull it out a hair, it will spin 360 degrees, but when i push it back in farther, will only turn a little and stop. Any idea what my issue is? Am i doing something wrong or is a part effed up? Thanks!

SOmethings not right.... i hate this trans work, to top it off i just got my hand squished between my transmission and my jack. The tans rolled off the side of the jack onto my hand making a sandwich, hurt like a bitch, alls good though ,i rubbed some dirt on it and walked it off. haha.

If you bolted it to the engine and wedged it between the engine an the pump you likley damagedthe pump

You would have to pull the pump disassemble and check it. That would be the only way, But it is the most likley reason your are having the problem now

hmm i dunno. This is what the converter felt like when i had the trans in the car. Could the pump have broken upon removal of the tranny? Could something be messed up in the converter?

There are only two ways to know for certain... remove the pump and chek it or start it up and see if it pumps.

However, if it is away from the engine and it spins feely then I would suggest it is not damaged. It is possible that the converter to crank pilot is binding keeping you from rotating it while the tranny is flush with the engine. As long as you have not forced anything I believe that you will be ok.

Well it is binding, i cant install it if the converter is bound. Its all the way in there and binding, and if i slide it out a little, it will spin 360 no prob, but that last click in, it binds....

Meaning if you push the converter into the pump all the way it binds?

If it binds when the the tranny is flush with the engine, try to look for witness mark on the crank pilot hub.

So, you did not bolt the tranny housing to the block?

It wouldnt spin because it was hitting the flexplate? Was there a "finger" gap between the verter and the flexplate after you tightened down the houseing to the block?

It wasnt hitting the flexplate, there was a gap.

I think what he means is when he has the converter fully inserted it only spins so far in each direction , But when he pulls it out past the tags in the pump it spins freely

Depends on where you get one and no they are not very hard to replace, I cant sell you a pump but I can talk you through installing it. I have sucessfully done it for a hand full of our customers who goofed during the install.
