Trans cooler w/FTRA
Where's the best place to mount your trans cooler if you're running a FTRA or similar type set-up? Can you still sneak a 19,000 gvw in there by condenser, or what? Behind grill opening hole maybe? Anyone whose gotten goo cooling results....Thanks. WJ.
do a search for the "Dope" style. he is a member here. i did my cooler the same way he did his. he does have online instructions. very good place for it. i do have a FTRA also. tranny stays below 190 all the time
After seeing the Dope Style install pics im wondering how it would help cool the fluid when you are in traffic. I also have a FTRA and removed it to install the cooler onto the front of the radiator so when the fans go on even when stopped it would draw air through the cooler. If anyone has any imput please let me know I would really like to reinstall the FTRA.
thanks

I saw Dope's method. There has to be a better way...You want the air from cooling fans to be hitting the trans cooler in staging lanes or in traffic on a hot day....Damn, I'm going to come up w/something that will work w/this FTRA and similar setups....Anyone out there dealing w/this and found a good solution? WJ.
Just get one of the new B&M HiTek coolers. It has a fan onboard and a built in switch that turns the fan on when temps reach 160f.
I have my cooler (with FTRA) facing down toward the ground. It doesn't cool well at all in stop-n-go. I'm getting the HiTek one instead because when I get a frontmount intercooler for the turbo I want the tranny cooler out of the way.

Screw that, those fan coolers are alot of wasted money. I just got a slim line 3/4 thick cooler from summit.
I installed it behind the radiator, in front of the fans.
I had the B&M super cooler, but i couldnt find a decent place to mount it.
GO SLIM LINE!

If you mount it like mine, then no, it will not get a lot of airflow in traffic. Quite frankly though, with my 24k B&M, I've not seen over 180-185 temps in the dead heat of summer in rush hour traffic (for more than an hour at a time). Anything below 200 is good. I've had it for 2 years like that so I am plenty satisfied.
If you guys run into trouble, with extreme heat or with a really high stall, just put a fan on it, and wire it in with the stock cooling fans, so that it comes on when they come on. Problem solved.
There's plenty of airspace above the cooler with the way I have it mounted.

i've got my 24k installed behind my lower air duct on the passenger side fascia on my T/A. its protected by the plastic shroud for the fender lining. there is a small trap door that drops down and we tucked it up in there at an angle and it gets all the air it would ever want plus you wouldn't know it was there if you looked under the car....besides the lines of course
Hi John. Nice job on the B&M 24k cooler install w/Whisper or FTRA. I will definitely model my install after yours. Thanks very much for your professionalism and the willingness to share it.... WJ.

I moved the horns out of the way and bolted the cooler in place.
