Broke another 4L65E input DRUM (pics)
Ok guys, I need to know if they make an aftermarket input DRUM for a 4L65E. It just got the car back together and on the first night of taking it out for some fun I think it shattered another input drum. It keeps breaking them about 80mph when shifting from 2-3 at about 6700rpms. it was a 716 drum so does anyone know if they make a stronger drum?
here is the first one... It didn't break the shaft, just the drum. And not sure what the second looks like since I won't tear it apart until I see about the aftermarket drum

I am not aware of an aftermarket drum. Lots of issue with trying to make one and just not cost effective. However if you keep breaking them shifting to third gear I would be concerned as to how hard the shift is going into this gear. Just my opinion. What kind of power are you making and what is the application with mods?

lol. I just emailed FLT about there Sleeved drums. I am not sure of the actual pressure since I have yet to put a gauge on it but my HP tuners is set to 90 and a max of 96, does this mean anything to you? It is in a 2000 camaro but unsure of actual RWHP since I have had only two nights to drive the car and both broke the drums. the tranny mods include all billet servos, transgo manual kit, z pak clutches, B shell, 5 pinion rear, welded ring, 2400 stall and I am sure some more just forgot.

Sorry I can't help you with the tuning. I am by trade a transmission rebuilder. We do recommend that the line pressures with a shift kit be set to the factory setting. I do not recommend elevating both in the tune and with a shift kit. If you would like to talk about your situation I will be in the shop sometime around 9:00 am CST tomorrow. Give me a call or Chuck if you have time. Vince

Seeing as you are experiencing multiple failures, definately install a sleeved drum. And then I recommend installing a Vacuum Modulator so that you know you are not experiencing irregular line pressure rise issues.
Just my .02.
Good Luck with it, your in good hands with FLT!

just pulled it a part to see what the deal was. Broke the input shaft on this one. about the first inch of the shaft was still stuck in the converter when I pulled it off. After talking with Vince at FLT for awhile, I changed my line pressures back to stock and gonna order a FLT sleeved drum tomorrow and hope it fixes the problem
