If you have alot of money in the converter and trans, and the car is raced alot, the reason you should be into it once a month is to make sure the trans is not leaving metal, brass, or aluminum deposits in the pan. I'm into mine once a month. If you catch it early, you can save big bucks. With all of the hard launches and firm shifting metal is being pounded like a hammer on a nail. Something can give at any moment. I agree with Matt. $20.00 and a little time is all you need to save thousands.
