Default How often do you change your trans fluid/filter?

I bracket race my formula on a regular basis but only put on 1,500 miles per year. How does every 2 years sound?
Thanks

If I was racing a lot I would change it every season and make sure I had a tranny cooler. On my DD I change it every 18 months or 20k....my tahoe has 110k on it.

If you are bracket racing every weekend, I would change it every month to two months.

i heard from some people that if nothing is wrong with your tranny to not change the fluid as odd as that sounds. ive heard a couple people who had issues the second they changed there fluid. i think it has something to do with buildup.. hopefully someone can chime in. but i do check my fluid and make sure its topped off as well.

i heard this too, something about the fluid being thicker the older it is, and it holds components of the trans together better....i have no idea though, i heard similar things

With todays tranny fluids there is little reason to change it very often. If you are cooling it properly and you are not slipping clutches you will not be stressing the fluid. Lot of people change it when it smells burned, but usually by that point you have bigger problems. My old work truck went 150,000 miles with constant towing and hauling abuse before it cooked the clutches. Fluid was never changed once and still looked decent despite the plentiful clutch material.

Track oriented. Spring and Fall at the track/best of five passes. Trans fluid/filter change once a year, along w/ diff fluid change also.

Having been building Performance units for 30 years now, the best way to know when to change the fluid (completely), is when the fluid starts to look burnt or smell burnt. That means to check it often. This way of doing it has never failed to work.
