logged my temps last night and they stay right at 220-222 and i have a cooler. Is this high? i havent ever paid attention before i got the TC and cooler. What should they be?
i suspect my cooler isnt doing the job anyway.

I run a TH400 with a Yank SS4000E verter and a transbrake. Normal driving my tranny temp is about 180. Last Friday I did 12 passes at the track in 3 hours all with the transbrake, the highest trans temp I saw was 210. I'm using a B&M trans cooler.
Are those trans temps your seeing from racing or normal driving? 220+ seems kinda high for normal driving with a trnas cooler installed.

222 was just driving down the expressway. I have just ordered the 24k gvw cooler from B&M. hopefully this will cool things down. Thinking that maybe this is a contributing factor to the 7 rebuilds in the last 6 months.
what size cooler did ya get? I really dont know much about what temp it should or should not be at... but for anyone who does know to answer the question honstly I would think they would have to know if:
1) you were at the track lastnight logging it?
2) driving around town logging it?
3) driving around town doing WOT runs logging it?
4) How were you logging it? Atap? by checking your stock gage or aftermarket gage?
5) what size cooler you have on.
6) What size TC do you have? The bigger the vertor the bigger cooler you will need.
I'll be keeping an eye on this one. I would like to learn from it.

Are you sure you have it installed where the fluid goes trough the cooler after it comes out of the radiator? Do you have the fans drawing air across the cooler?
The cooler should be installed in series with the top (outlet)line from the radiator. The bottom (inlet)line should stay hook up like factory.

Larry,
I didnt install the cooler and honestly havent really got under there to look. i do know they installed the cooler right above the air dam spoiler. The shop that did it is crap so i am having to change just about everything they did.

Definitely sounds like either the wrong fluid was used, or maybe the hoses were not hooked up properly. My fluid temps are usually consistant with my coolant temps, 178F normal driving, 180-190 after several passes. As long as you have you fans set to come on, and your 160 stat installed, it should definitely be lower.
Ok, can someone tell me where and how they have their cooler mounted and the lines connected so i can go check the way mine is set up. i have never installed one so....need a little help here.
? TIA...

well... normal cruising in hot weather my trans temp gauge reads 180* (atap shows 190-195)
this is w/a 28,000 GVW B&M cooler and my Vig 3600
When my last transmission started going on me, trans temp would get up to 230* normal driving, and if I was going up hill the trans gauge would peg at 250...
Right now w/my new tranny, same stall and same cooler I haven't seen higher than 190 w/very aggressive driving....

Check the TCI website.
Seems that I read where they like the trans temp to be at 175 or lower.
You need your fans re-set or get a fan switch.
