my tranny has left the building!
well after 2 years of dd and tons of track passes i think my tranny finally quit. it shifted 1 to 2 fine then tagged the limiter and wouldn't go into drive. i have no gears at all(forward or reverse) and it sounds like it has a big blower on it(whining really loud). after searching on here it seems like the pump quit
. my questions are
1- what would cause the pump to fail on a built tranny with less than 15,000 miles on it
2- is it a given that there is gonna be debris through out the tranny meaning it needs rebuilt again or can i have the pump replaced by itself.
if i'm gonna be spending big $$$$ i might just go to a rmvb th350 and call it a day. if any sponsers want to shed some light on what might have happened that would be great. thanks in advance

Well if it will not move I would suspect that it lost one of the planets gears sets or stripped the input hub.... too hard to guess a failure like that.
If your best e.t. is a 11.61 then there is no reason why a very well built 4L60E would not be up to the task. We have many guys running these units in cars with stroker combinations (over 400 cid) spring healthy shots of N20 on then running deep into the 10.0xx's.
Give me a call if you like and I can give you some options on building either unit...a nice TH350 or a nice 4L60E.
Good Luck either way you go!

so if the car won't move at all it seems like a mechanical issue not the pump? with the car off and in any drive gear it just rolls which leads me away from the pump because i would assume it wouldn't need line pressure to put up atleast a little resistance.
It dosent sound like the pump to me more like a broken part , Possible the input drum

well i finally got around to checking it out today and it's not the pump. disconnected the cooler line and had fluid full of metal spraying out on start up. i'm hoping to have it out in the next couple days. when i know what happened i'll update the thread
Metalic fluild spraying out the cooler lines I would be highly suspect of a converter failure

You would have to cut the converter, But remember fluid comig through the cooler line is coming from the pump and converter. Fluid coming from the trans internals must go to the pan then back through the filter up into the pump. So gritty metal coming from the cooler would have to be from the pump or the converter, Pump couldnt make much and still work so thats why I say Converter
Unfortunatly Fluid coming from the cooler goes into the planets and all bushigs and bearings, So that means a trans too
Sorry not good
