what size tranny cooler??

what size tranny cooler?? i am running a yank 3500 and was wondering what size t-cooler would be good for this and that would fit with my ftra set up, and i am going to keep the a/c also! this is my everyday car! thanks in advance!

Re: what size tranny cooler?? The 19000 may squeeze in the preferred mounting location with the FTRA because it is the thinest. It will not achieve full cooling though because of blocked air flow.
I ran it in mine with the FTRA for a short time and then pulled it when I wasn't getting the airflow to the cooler like I needed. If you mount it in an alternate location you will want the 24000 because you will be looking at 25-30% loss in cooling in any alternate cooling location because of lossed air flow.

Re: what size tranny cooler?? "Yes there are different sizes. A few years ago myself and few guys from LS1.com did some track testing on the different sized coolers. As it turns out a transmission can be to cool as well as to hot. We started with the smaller coolers and saw ET's and tranny temps go down every time we increased the size of the cooler. But only to a point. We tested three coolers that were all larger than the 16000# GVW cooler I recomended. Each time transmission temps continued to go down but ET's began to raise back up. That is why I recommended the 16000# GVW cooler. It is one that performs the best on the F-body."

Re: what size tranny cooler?? His e-mail is interesting in theory, but I doubt it's valid in practice. It could have been just the launch surface of the track going away too or changes in temps during the runs and so on.
I wouldn't use anything smaller than the 19000 with a 3500 or higher stall. If you do any city driving in TX during the summer, you probably should even have the 24000 because of the long hot summers.
