odd 4l60e trouble in a 98 Trans Am (late 1-2 shift)
Hey there folks, I have a 98 TA that the transmission is starting to act up on.
Basically, it has a late shift from 1-2 but everything else seems normal. It does not feel like it is slipping, and all the other shifts are on time.
I changed the fluid and filter about 2 months ago, and it looks fine. A neighbor who used to work at a transmission shop said something might be sticking, and to try some trans medic. Taking it with a grain of salt, I drained some fluid and put the trans medic in, it still has pretty much the same issue.
It is late around 1000rpm I would say, and sometimes has to think about when to shift.
Any ideas? I was not sure if the trans just needs a rebuild or there might be something else I can do.
Thanks in advance!!

Well the first thing to do would be to data logg or use a scaner to see when the shifts being comanded and to check for codes present. The 4L60E is compleely controlled by the PCM as far as when any shift ocurs, I would look at that first as its more likley to be a PCM or Sensors issue than a trans issue, Also I would get the transmedic out of there. While I have seen ot give a little moe life to a failing "old" trans by swelling rubber seals that have gotten hard, I have also seen what it can do to a newer trans turning the seals into mush. I have seen the seals become so soft I have to digg them out from around the pistons and they have the consistancy of mud.

Welp, I scanned for codes but nothing there. I am going to take it to a local shop to have them monitor the ecm on the dyno and see if the transmission is getting shift commands. I guess if it is, then there could be a sensor/soleniod in the transmission that is toast?

There may be and issue with the 2-4 band. or the 1-2 servo. Whats the condition of the fluid. It would not be a solenoid as all the solenoids are used in the other gears also along with the valves in the valve body. And how many miles are on the car or trans?

With that many miles it would likley be and issue with the band would be my guess,O have seen where you can have 4th without second even though the band does both since theres less strain on fourth, But with those miles you are in the market for a rebuild or a replacement trans I AM AFRAID
