Default What is needed to install T400 into A4 car?

Here is what I think I need...

M6 crossmember
Custom tq arm mount
Need to add a rod end to the end of my RT tq arm which already comes threaded...

Does anyone make a crossmember that might work with my RT tq arm?

Does the T400 take up a lot of room or will the tq arm have plenty of room?

YANK has a crossmember that works great. I bought it for my TH400 install. The Crossmember is made to use the Torque Arm bushing from Random Tech. I bought the bushing from RT but I am using the LG Torque Arm.

I did a swap from an M6 to a T400 the T400 was just a little longer than my M6, so I needed a shorter drive shaft. But the mount of the TA mount on the xmember was in the exact spot of my old setup.

I know the YANK piece is pricy, but the other options (BMR, stock mounts etc) that were cheaper still left me with having to fabricate a TA mount. The YANK was perfect.

What about selling the RT torque arm and buying a Spohn unit?

John, I believe you are changing from an A4 right? If so, your stock crossmember will work. It just needs the pad lengthened about 2". I have some pics of mine if you want. I can't help with the tq arm though. I have a GW which bolts to my crossmember.
Get the dipstick through MADMAN. Perfect fit.

I was told if you use a TH400 that there is no good way to get the speedometer to work. Is that the case?

I use the yank speedo sensor, and it works pretty good, speed is pretty close to what it should be showing...

I think its like $250

You have to replace the cable drive speed sensor on the TH400 with an electronic sensor. You will need 3 GM parts, (I don't have the part #'s here), for a total of ~$150.00. Very easy to change. However, if changing from a M6 you will need to have someone with LS1 Edit change your tire size to get the speedo correct. The M6 will read 2.4 times the speed. A4 doesn't need this.

My biggest concern is bolting up a torque arm so we can move the car around.

I'm not into the Spohn stuff how about the BMR stuff?

John,

I have the BMR Trak-Pak torque arm setup and I like it. The crossmember welds between the subframes so it's completely off the tranny. I'll take some pics of it if you want.

how fast do you want to go?

for me there are two choices.

1) Madman w/ its own crossmember

2) LG with Yank mount. RT works too I guess.

I here the BMR Xtreme is also pretty strong.

why not use the stocker with a floating mount (madman can prolly build you one) and some Pete-Z LCA's. Thats what I would do really.

John, if you plan on starting from scratch on the tq arm and stuff, go with MADMANS setup, hands down.

I have some interest in the BMR system, I would not mind seeing a pic does it impair exhaust clearance?

John, I have the BMR extreme TA installed. I can take some pics later if you are interested. I can't answer the exhaust question though. I don't have one on the car right now.

The nice thing about the BMR, Madman or Spohn TA's is you will never need to take the TA off to change the tranny again. I had the Random Tech TA before and that was a real biotch to change converters or drop the tranny.

Will there be any computer issues when going from a 4l60e to a TH400? of will the speed sensor take care of that?

I'm gravitating to the Billingsley Racing crossmember and torque arm setup. It's like $600 but it's chromoly, and it's all there. I can just bolt in the T400 and the torque arm and I am done. Jay Billingsley took his Random Tech torque arm down to the 10.3's no problem but elected to fabricate his own setup to take 1.2-1.4 60 ft times.
