I've seen A4's with less mods whip up on 6-speeds with more mods. Usually from a dig, but not always. Most people want to think that the 6-speed is going to be faster, but that just isn't the case always. Of course, it's hard to beat a 6-speed from a roll, but it's far from impossible. A Yank PT4400 certainly increases your chances .

I am thinking of buying a 6 speed car as a semi daily driver but my race car will always be an automatic with a big stall.

yep, post this in the manual section and you'll get different results. The main difference is: Do you want it to "feel" fast? or GO fast? I like to row my own but may swap out to a 4l80 down the road.

Funny how you post this in the Auto section.... what kind of answer are you expecting? Stalled auto dumdumdum though!

Well...I was originally a Built 4L60E with a 3600 stall...and I decided I wanted to row my own and did the M6 swap. Long story short...the M6 was way more trouble than it was worth. I think the T56s are great....but F-Body hydraulics are junk, and I wasnt into killing expensive clutches....after spending countless hours and money on new hydraulics and shims and shifters, etc I said enough is enough, so I went back to a stalled A4 and I couldnt be happier.

I love my 6 speed, but my car is 99.9% street driven. If I were building a drag car, I couldn't argue the advantages of a slushbox.

My first two Camaros and my El Camino were autos, and they were fun... but they had nothing on my 6 speed. Personally, I don't think I'll ever buy an auto car again!

A4 all the way. After the stall, custom built 4l60e and the shift kit I put the smack down on the M6

Manuals are good for road racing and when you have an empty road to play on but for drag racing and getting stuck in traffic i will take the auto every time.

most people that drive a stick are too ignorant to realize that. they think a stalled auto is ****.

I'll be switching to an automatic when my clutch dies. I'll get a 4L80 with a nice converter and maybe even button shifts.

I'm not claiming to be a great stick man and with my car not set up for the drag racing, I have beat my fair share of automatics at the track. I can reel them in on the big end lol. Of course with equal power a good automatic will win a drag race...

i cant imagine life without bangin gears with a lsx engine.

but i cant deny that stalled a3 with a lsx engine and psi is near bliss
turbo lsx with th400 and 3800 is what dreams are made of

i dont care much for a4, 60e or 80e
hit or miss, for peformance

my dd 60e truck runs smooth and gets excellent mpg

There is no way in hell I would ever go back to driving an automatic f-body ever again. I'm going to win most races no matter with my car and the other guys being auto's doesn't matter one bit. For a full blow race car there is no question. But out of the 15,000 miles you put on your car a year, how many of them are 1/4 mile passes? Say like you got 100 time slips a year, which is a really high number, you just put 25 miles on your car for the entire year with your foot to the floor, doing nothing, and letting your car do the work for you, and you just beat the manual guy with the same mods. Well that's cool, you guys can have all your fun on the track or streetracing I guess, but I'm going to take my car and have more fun than you could ever imagine on the streets with it. Why do you think race cars have automatics?? Because they are consistant, you don't do anything, which is not a problem for racing. Even if the difference was a half a second at the track, it would mean nothing to me. There is absolutely no way that an automatic with however big of stall you want could ever be funner than the 6-speed on the streets. It just doesn't happen, you don't have as much control. Period. Where I put lets say 14,900 of 15,000 miles on my car a year by having my fun on the streets. It's not A4>M6, its 14,900>100. Simple Math.

Once again, this is all a matter of opinion. I've had both, and you'll never convince me that 6-speed is more fun than a stalled A4. Yes, driving a 6-speed is fun, but I'll take the stall-o-matic over it any day. Instant gratification whenever you hit the gas regardless of what speed or what RPM. And of course, that is just my opinion. I'm sure I'd never convince you either !
