Auto guy's are crazy (maybe a little lazy..lol) I bought my first camaro with an auto and was a huge mistake could not wait to trade it in on a M6. Will NEVER, NEVER buy a auto car ever again. There is a reason why 90% of the cars over in Europe are manuals. They provide less loss of power, better fuel economy, way more fun imo, and I never had a problem spanking a stock auto with my stock M6 and if you all say "well if I throw a stall in" well let me spend equal amount and I win again. one and only draw back=consistency, But I know you auto guy's miss dumping the clutch!!
I made the move from T56 to th400 after finally realizing i didnt wana spend thousands of dollars on clutches and hydraulics. There just isnt a CHEAP/RELIABLE clutch out there thats under $1000. in the long run the th400 is probably going to save me mod money..
but autos take out driver errors. i know ill never miss a shift again

I love my auto because I dd my car and take it to the track occasionally. Driving around town I really don't feel like banging gears. When I get another t/a it will be a m6 so that I can have variety.
I didn't vote b/c I have a 4l60E thats goin out again, can't decide between an m6 a a3 or a built 4l60e. I have had a few other cars with built a3's and have had good luck with most of them. I have yet to own a six speed and that sounds like fun
i just got a auto ws6 and all the dumb *** ricer kids think that no matter what car it is if it has an automatic it blows. well im glad most of u guys can back me up on this. and ill keep blowin those annoying ricers away every saturday nite!!!!!!!!i vote auto.
For a street car I think a m6 will be better and more fun.
I drove two different M6 TA's from 1994 to 2008. Over 300K miles on both cars together. Finally got an A4 CETA and put in a 3000 stall. Don't miss the clutch a bit. The auto was faster at the track with a lid and stall only than my complete bolt on 98 TA M6 too. I also had alot of clutch problems that last 3 or 4 years so I was fed up with that. From a traffic light the A4 shines too!
I have had 96 ta ,97 ta ws6 and 99 ta ws6 all with m6. I am sick of clutches. Sick of them in traffic, sick of the noises these t 56 make especially sick of the machine gun noise the stick makes when you floor it even the stock hurst stick. I don't mind my tex twin for pedal pressure and it seems to hold the power but dont' like the floater rattle it makes whenever I push the clutch pedal in which is all the time in the city.
I am going to 4l80e with a nice stall and not going to give it a second thought. All my future cars will be auto most likely with six speed autos and paddle shifters. Would convert the 99 to paddle but don't want to lose my stock wheel.
I will have one manual car my 97 turbo talon and will keep it manual if it don't annoy me too much.
One option for you hard core clutch guys is to put in a full manual valve body so you can shift without a clutch.
Normal manuals are dinosaurs. Clutchless shifting is the answer and with a six speed auto really see even less reason to ever want or need a clutch again. CLUTHES and gm hydraulics are THE DEVIL!

I had a Stalled Auto for a while, and I kept on breaking the Auto's I had in my car and that got old. That and I've always wanted a Standard, I like to drive on the street and cruise with it, and i like to feel the pull when I'm rowin the Gears. That's why I swapped it.
If I get sick of the Standard and want to cruise with an Auto, I'll drive my Truck.

Also a proper installation of a stall, cooler, labor, and tuen is around $1000. And most people drop .4 -.6 seconds off their time. What could you possibly do to your 6speed that cost a grand that will yeild greater results? cheap spray maybe?
All my cars have been manual. Learned about the autos and said hey let me give a shot went and got an auto.....driving around town going to work i was like "hey this is pretty ******* boring". My friend told me to put a stall and blah blah blah.....put a stall and it was still ******* boring as hell. No matter how much a stalled auto is fast than my M6 i will still always have an M6.... I am not a race car driver I'm a fireman

I own both and like them both. But I must give the slight nod to the A4 - modded that is, with stall, shift kit, and tune. Stock to stock, I'd take the M6. Stock autos are slow shifting, the heavy low-stall converter causes dead spots, and it locks up too early causing bog.
But with the stall, tune, and shift kit, shifts are lightning fast, firm, the revs stay up, and lock up occurs when it should.
What I don't like about the M6 in normal driving is the drop off in rpms and acceleration during the 1-2 shift. On my auto, the shift is quick, the revs barely drop, and the acceleration is very linear. Very satisfying.

They are just two different driving experiances, and for me I cant choose one over the other. My DD is a M5, and I love twisty roads where I can work the gearbox. On the other hand stalled auto's are just a blast to plant the foot and hold on. I have also gotten the "why would you get an automatic for a performance car?" question. To which I would quietly take them out to meet my Vig 4400 and 4.10's.
I love manual tranmissions, that being said I hated autos until I drove one setup the right way!

I wonder how many of you that hate autos have ever driven a built one setup the right way?
