If I was NA I probably would have stayed with the 6 speed. mainly because Im more of a street guy vs a track guy. But I am DAMN glad I went with the 80e with my turbo setup. Kick it down and your FK'n GONE!

just for fun....look at the start of the race, the 3200 stall is what won the race.

this man said it the best.
I junked my t56 set up for a th400.

Car started out as an A4, threw in a Vig 3200 and drove like that for about a year. I didn't go to the track but once or maybe twice a year and thought I'd enjoy driving my car daily more as a M6. It's been 7 months or so, and I'm still happy with the swap.

For a track car, auto all the way. For a street car in an area with low to moderate traffic, M6 for me please.

We have one of each, and although i voted Auto, i love both. They are both cammed, full bolt on cars, and both can be a blast to drive.

alot of vehicles you can dump the clutch on and roast a set of tires..IMO nothings better than just punching the gas and torchin a set off from the start.

Manual...
Pros and cons
fun to drive
can rev it up to whatever you want and dump it.
harder on rear ends.
clutches are wear items.
factory clutch is weak once you up the power.
gm hydraulics can be annoying.
not fun to drive in heavy traffic
don't work as well for turbo cars. you can use two step or antilag to help build boost with manuals though.
less drivetrain loss
two overdrives which can make higher rear end gears more practical. Like 4.10 can make sixth actually useful.
noisy, gear noise ,shifter rattle especially when you go wot.

Autos
Pros and cons.
not as fun to drive although paddle shifted auto would be more fun.
nice in heavy traffic.
nice launch with a good stall
not as hard on rear ends
good for turbo cars to build boost and hold it better between shifts.
less noisy than standards..no shifter rattle ,gear rattle.clutch twin disc floater rattle.
only one overdrive unless you swap in six speed auto
more hp loss than manuals.
can't rev it to whatever you want and just let it rip like manual.
more expensive if you want a really built up one it seems.
heavier than manual.

Sorry didn't bother capitalizing stuff.
That said am sick of manuals had them in my 96 ta, 97 ta ws6 and my 99 ta ws6. Have auto in my 96z vert.
I am sick of shifting in traffic, sick of twin disc floater rattle its not that loud but its there, sick of clutches even though tex twin is working good had terrible luck in past with clutches, masters, slaves. shifting at high rpm..

Any future car I buy will be auto and hopefully six speed minimum with paddle shifting. No more clutches for me.

Default Auto vs Stick

The M6 impresses others more. I have had many people ride in my Vig3600 camaro and ride in a buddy's M6 and they'd swear that the M6 would kill my A4, but timeslips show different.

The "feeling" in an M6 is one of shock/release/shock/release, which really demonstrates the power. A passenger gets a very strong impression in an M6 car.

The feeling in an A4 is a steady rush into the power and it's an illusion that it's not as fast, in reality it's faster (at least off the line and in 1/4 mile).

My car was A4, but last year I swapped in an T56. I had a vig 3600 in the car for about six months and took it out cause I wanted to start saving for the M6 swap. When I'm just driving around I really enjoy the M6, but I miss the acceleration of a stalled A4. So it all depends i guess, I really didnt go to the track enough to really like having a stalled auto. Although now that I put a cam in my car I do miss having a stalled A4. The M6 is fun for high way rolls though.

All that being said I'm thinking of putting in the rmvb 400 I have sitting in the garage into the car.

Driving in Atlanta traffic, I prefer my automatic. A 6sp would be fun, but not dealing with the traffic that I have to deal with!
