The Super Thuster series was discontinued for f-bodies due to chatter problems that were
never fully resolved. Initially the clutch material was kevlar and later switched to carbon/ceramic. Some experienced SES lights with ST3500s when running at low speeds in OD; driving in D seemed to cure this. '01s/'02s have had problems with torque management
and high stall converters; many have had to resort to LS1 Edit to delete torque management.
And, not just Yanks.
I just replaced a Super Thruster 3000 that developed chatter after 2k, when moderate acceleration was attempted at 40-55 mph. Kevlar clutch. Problem was attitributed to a glazed clutch from running a ported MAF, resulting in low line pressure. 4 oz. of Lube Gard Friction Modifier and a B &M Shift+ reduced but never cured the problem. Because Yank discontinued this series, I felt that a $150 upgrade plus 2 install fees was not worth the risk and just replaced it with a Yank SS3600. So far, so good; this converter drives like my 3000 until you mash it. So, why did I go with Yank again?
A. Only converter manufacturer that has complete technical data.
B. Efficient. Losing top end in the quarter with a Vigilante 3200 is not good.
C. Yank's teardown/evaluation of a TCI on their website.UGH
D. 29.5 lbs VS 40 lbs for a Midwest
E. Drivability of a 2800 with a 3600 stall-WOW!
F. The hope that mistakes with the ST series would force them to 'get it right' this time.

wow, what a great response to my post. i finally found the answers to my problems. i too get an ses lite when traveling part throttle at low speed
when in o/d say for instance i'm on my way from long island to englishtown raceway, about a 1 1/2 hour ride with some traffic since this story is true, as i slow down to a crawl, there goes the ses lite and i go into limp home mode, i believe 2nd gear, i pull over, shut car , restart and car runs fine and lite goes off eventually, get to track, rip off a couple of 12.40's and go home with no problem. it's happened a few more times in similar circumstances with lite not going off, when code is read, it says 1-2 shift solenoid, had that replaced, did'nt help. i am going to get an ls1 edit done to delete t/m but until then, is it safe to not to use o/d on hwy w/373's until then and if so, will driving in "d" only stop ses lite and limp home for now. thank you a ton and i look forward to your reply, thanks, greg

Driving in D will not hurt anything except your mileage.
If you've got access to a HPP III, you may want to kick up your shift firmness (line pressure) to see if that helps. That will reduce 'slippage'.

yes, i do have a hpp3, also, i have issues with the converter as far as bouncing off the rev limiter coming out of first. the simplist way to solve this i think is adjust or increase the mph shift points and increase the rev limiter but i'm afraid to set it too high, what do you think?

Wrong way.
If you're bouncing off the rev limiter, decrease your shift point, not raise it.

your right, decrease shift points, i'm just learning how to use this hpp thing. thanks
by the way, what is chatter as far as t/c is concerned, the car ran great with converter, no vibrations or anything like that, just the ses lite. also, i'm converting to red line fluid for transmission and converter since the converter is currently out of car and will be put back in on saturday. the reason it was taken out was to see if i would get the ses lite with stock converter back in and i did not, car ran great, just not as quick out of the hole. i'm putting 3600 converter back in to get ls1 edit done and a dyno tune since i nver had a dyno tune done since mods were done.

Chatter sucks.
First time it happened, I was getting on RT 84; slowed for a light and gave it moderate gas to accelerate at around 40 when it shook like a wet puppy. SEVERE RAPID SHAKE/VIBRATION. Feels like you are rippimg the drive train out. Had to get off the gas to stop it.
Did it again at 50-55. All in OD.
After the Lube Gard and B&M Shift+, would still do it but to a much less degree.
Still a PITA; you never know when it's going to do it. Driving in D helped; car just diddn't like being driven in OD at 30-55.

poncho, what do you think of the red line fluid, can't hurt right, i hear it's pretty good for temp. reduction.
