with my 3.73s on 245-50-16 Nitto I am at
2400 rpm @ 70mph
2750 rpm @ 80mph

You can do it by wiring in a switch or you can do it with programming. Example, you could program it to always be locked when the throttle is at %100 and above a certain MPH.
Advantage? The ability to have the RPMS lower across the line. This might allow someone to run a numerically higher gear than they would have or it could keep them from having to run a taller tire. If locked at the appropriate time, a higher trap speed can usually be expected. How much higher? It depends on the efficiency of the converter in question. The lower the efficiency, the more there is to be gained by locking it.
