A4'S WITH 4.10'S GOT A QUES? thinking about throwing 4.10's in the ol heap. question is, what are your rpms at 70 mph and what rpms through the traps? thanks jason.

with my 3.73s on 245-50-16 Nitto I am at
2400 rpm @ 70mph
2750 rpm @ 80mph

Re: A4'S WITH 4.10'S GOT A QUES? Gregg, converter slippage (generally about 5-8%.) If you lock the converter in an A4 then your RPMs across the line will be like that of an M6 at a given speed.
Re: A4'S WITH 4.10'S GOT A QUES? Do most A4 guys lock the converter in 3rd? What are the disadvantages? How do you do this, do you have to wire a switch to the tranny? What gains can one expect?

You can do it by wiring in a switch or you can do it with programming. Example, you could program it to always be locked when the throttle is at %100 and above a certain MPH.
Advantage? The ability to have the RPMS lower across the line. This might allow someone to run a numerically higher gear than they would have or it could keep them from having to run a taller tire. If locked at the appropriate time, a higher trap speed can usually be expected. How much higher? It depends on the efficiency of the converter in question. The lower the efficiency, the more there is to be gained by locking it.
