Default Urethane tranny mount - thumbs DOWN

Well, I felt that familiar thud on the floorboard yesterday, which has been
indicative of a whacked tranny mount. That would be the 4th in 9 months!

Today, I knew I had a "left over" urethane tranny mount from the 3-point
kit I bought (2 engine / 1 tranny kit from Prothane). I've already installed
the urethane engine mounts, but hesitated installing the tranny mount
because Dave at Yank recommended against using it and because of all the
folks out in LT-land recommended against it.

But ... I had a borked tranny mount and I wanted to at least be able to drive
the car at a moments whim, so I swapped out the broken mount with the
urethane mount. Twenty minutes later, I'm done.

OUCH! As soon as I fired up the car, I knew I didnt want this mount to live
much longer on the tailhousing. Sure, I could live with it, but it is VERY
annoying - the vibrations are distracting, even if it means the women will like it

My recommendation - stay away from the urethane tranny mount !

This is all I've ever ran and don't have any problems. Did you install it with or without the metal plate between the mount and the tranny?

There is no "option" of using a metal plate or not using a metal plate.

The aggravation are the vibrations - I feel every bit of the tranny's nuances.

I've read that many folks "upgrade" using the LSx tranny mount.

Mine all came with a removable plate. If you use it you can get the problems you're having. Once I ditched it I noticed no differance from stock.

Prothane tranny mount has no metal plate also the prothane is closer to the height of the stock tranny mounts so it doesn't throw the pinion angle way off.

the Energy suspension mount has a metal torque plate and I found out the hard way a couple times that if you don't use it it will break and twist itself in half. Plus the ES mount is a lot taller than stock so it throws off the torque arm and pinion angle.

They do transmit vibration but they soften up after a while and end up not transmitting nearly as much vibration. really its a tough call though.. stock mounts break like nothing. Polys (at least the Porothane mount) won't break constantly but do transmit vibration and will change the pinion angle which in itself will probably cause vibrations as well.

What sort of mileage are we talking about for this "loosening up" period?

4 mounts in 9 months?? Something isn't right. I get over a year on a tranny mount...sometimes even longer.

Everything is tight. It's just the cheap-a$$ (probably made in China) wimpy
tranny mount. Fairly new urethane (Prothane) engine mounts, new FLT
tranny . . . all other mount points are tight and correct.
