Vig 3600: Is it really that inefficient?

I have the opportunity to switch from my Midwest 3500 2.0 to a Vig 3600 for under $200. My Midwest is a good, streetable converter, but my best 60' to date is a crappy 1.84 on Nittos. I hear people easily pulling 1.7's and some 1.6's on Nittos w/ the Vig and even better on ET Streets.
My concern is the inefficiency. Since I have over 400rwhp, surprising a modded 03 Cobra from a roll is fun to me
But I'm afraid that if I switch to the Vig, some of that fun will end. I don't want to lose mph or my ability to suprise people on the highway.
I know people will tell me to go for a TP4000+ but that's not an option right now. I heard about the flatline Vig's show on the dyno from 4k-5k rpm and this worries me. Can someone make me feel better here?

i pulled a 1.58 on 16inch nittos with the vig3600 and bolt ons. Cam only I could only pull a 1.64 best spining on nittos.
she trapped 113 bolt on and 117 cam only so thats right there with the yanks and others out there. It may loose a little on top end, but it gets ya off the line. Thats where it counts

The Midwest converter uses many of the same internal components as the Vig. You shouldn't lose that much efficiency. If you really like racing from a roll though, a switch to a Yank Pro Thruster 4400 might be worth waiting for.

Can you be more specific as to what similar components both Midwest and PI use? If I won't lose much efficiency, then this $200 swap is a no brainer

Since you said Midwest and PI use the same internals, I went back and looked closely at my graph, and sure enough, there's the flat line from about 4500-5300!

Most converter companies use the venerable 082 stator for their high stall torque converters. Precision does, TCI does, and I believe Midwest does too. This stator gives excellent throttle response, high STR, but less than average efficiency. Yank uses stators that have strong launch capabilities and very good efficiency. The way a converter company works the blade angles of the pump and its clearances with the turbine also heavily determine efficiency. PI is no better or worse than Midwest in this regard so I would expect the efficiencies to be in the same ballpark. Yes, $200 upgrade should be a no-brainer. Have fun!
