Default Torque converter solenoid

Torque converter solenoid circuit code came up. I got an auto. Figure ill just replace the solenoid. Probably a dumb question but...

What is the difference between a trans on/off lockup solenoid and a 3-2 shift solenoid? And what do they do?

Well thats piece of mind to know. Literally checked almost everything else that I thought could create the prob I had. All and all I will be ordering the standard motors on/off lockup solenoid and 3-2 shift solenoid from kragens auto tomorrow.

Why are you ordering a 3-2 solenoid when the tcc solenoid is the one that is throwing a code?

The tcc solenoid is pretty easy to get to. Its up at the very front and stuck in the pump. Held in by two iirc 8mm bolts... might 10mm. Also if I recall correctly you have to remove another solenoid to get access to it. The solenoid you have to remove to get to it will just be held in with a little spring clip and is then easily removed.

Dont forget to wash and move the screen over thats in the tcc solenoid if your new one has a place to hold it some aftermarket ones dont have a provision for the screen. Just give it a little twist and it will pull right out of the end of the solenoid.

delete the codes! I replaced solenoids twice before figuring this out.
