Default Tranny problems

4l60e rebuild

Okay i have this problem where it does not occur driving in town or city, only when I drive on the highway for a half hour to the next city i drive too. Anyways I will come to a stop in the next city and the car will not roll in drive, foot off brake, if i press the gas it does not hit the rev limiter but barly rolls. Almost like letting out the clutch on a manual more gas and slowly letting out the clutch with rpms higher up. But if I put it into park and I usually revv it a couple times then put back into drive it works perfect, it rolls forward and I have too use the brake to keep in still.

i have no clue so any suggestions will be great

Thanks

Is this in the OD range when it does this? Have you tried to drop it down to one of the lower shifter positions? Any codes? It almost sounds like your vehicle is going into a limp mode condition. If only does this in the OD shifter position, I'm guessing that you might have an input sprag that is beginning to fail.

Sounds like your starting in a higher gear or limp mode but I wouldn't think limp mode would go away after you place in park and rev. I would say possibly a faulty or restricted 1-2 solenoid. Are you getting any CHECK ENGINE or SES light?

nope no lights no codes tranny fluid still that pinish red doesnt smell burnt. Yah it is in the OD position, and no i have never tried a different gear just park. But also instead of putting the car in park I can make the car slowly creep but once the rpm say gets to 1500 1400 theres a feel like it engaged into gear or something went into place then the car takes off like normal. But it does not hit the rev limiter or rev really high. Just revs up enough to the point theres a clunk not a huge deal but a clunk then the car accerates like normal, and does'nt do it again driving around the city. And atleast then you have to push on the brake to keep the car still. Its the 1/2hr highway drive that starts this problem. I can drive all around town for hrs and nothing. I can go on the highway punch it and go back into town and it still does not do it. Its definetly the 1/2hr highway drive to the next city. The problem also occured after the gear change 2.73 to 3.42. Maybe a coincidence i dunno. But the car was retuned by madz28 for the gear swap.

Try placing the shifter into low next time it happens, then get back to us. If that does not change anything put it in park, turn off the engine, restart it and see how it responds to that.

Also, have you checked the fluid level? Are there any leaks?

your probaly just low on fluid. It takes quite a bit of fluid in these trannys. it may look ful when u fill it up first, but as soon as you drive and it goes throught the cooler lines, to the tranny cooler, and the stall..... youll be like a quart low. And that woul easily cause whats happening

Okay i took the datamaster out and went for the same usual trip and nothing, never screwed up at all, car ran perfectly fine. So i dunno what the problem is. But last time it did this problem the ground from the battery was giving me problems, but after i fixed it the car ran fine. This time the battery was killed on me and I charged it up and it did it again. Im almost thinking it has to do something with the electrical.

But i do have the datamaster if someone wants to see. But it is too large to attach.

thanks

Hey sorry for bringing up an old post. Its been a while since this problem occurred. Yah Gilbert i tried placing it into a lower gear and every selector, and turned it off and started it again and the problem still persisted. I checked fluid and its good, and still no engine light.

Thanks

Wow... this is an oldie but a goodie!

Hey bubba, I've been off doing other things in the racing world but have always had my eye on coming back as a Sponsor. I am quite surprised to see this old thread to say the least. Obviously I had to go back and reread it all in order to understand it.

How often does this happen? What has been done to the car since it first started showing symptoms?

Don't hesitate to call me tomorrow in order to discuss it in detail!

It only will do it when I drive to the next city from me which is 28 miles away. That's going 65 miles n hour for 28 miles. Then it will do it. When I get there it feels like dragging brakes or might sound dumb but it seems like sumone is pulling me from the rear. I have to push the pedal harder than normal and the revs r up higher too around 2000. Eventually once it get up too 30 miles an hour it seems fine and the next stop it doesn't do it.

I bought the car in 05 and never did much. Optispark went south so I did that. I did wires plugs battery headers normal maitence stuff. The very first time this happened back in my first post in 08 was when I blew up the rear and fixed it and changed the gears. I had to get the pcm tuned for the speedo. After that it did this. But I did have the pcm tuned from madz28 before and this never happened so the second time he did it for the speedo fix I can't see it being the pcm tune. So I have no clue.

Thanks for your help

Well, that helps. I don't mind staying on this with you. Apparently you have been dealing with it forever by now!

So, the first thing to do is to try to duplicate the condition with a scanner of some sort on it. The goal is to determine if the issue is being commanded or not. If we can determine that, we can move on.

What part of the country are you in?

I live in saskatchewan. Yah ill have to get scanner and do my regular routine and drive to yorkton 30 miles away.
Yah this is definetly been forever. Obviously not mechanical cause sumthing should have broken by now. Elctrical glitch I'm assuming. Also one thing I didn't mentioned is I can drive around the city for hours driving 30 mph and it will never do it. So it definetly on the highway going 65 mph is when it will make it screw up when I stop.

Thanks for help. Greatly appreciated

Well, I guess having you drop by and letting me take a look at it is out of the question then!

Get that scanner on it and lets see what we can find. You're looking to see what gear is being commanded vs what the transmission pressure switch manifold is reporting.

Thanks
