Default cheaper alternative to Pro Yank 3600 Extreme

I'm trying to find a decent t/c for nitrous applications. I understand that the Pro Yank 3600 Extreme is a great convertor, but I just cant see paying $1000 for it. My wife gave me the ok to spend $600. What is a good alternative to this convertor for the price range I'm trying to stay in?

I would like to be spraying out of the hole, with 125 shot. would the PI 3200 be a good choice for this, or should I go up to a higher stall?

Vig TC are underrated. The 3200 should flash at 3600-3800 so it is often referred to as vigilante's best N20 converter. It will stall the same if not a tad more then the yank 3600e so you should be fine with that converter. I believe it sells for $699 so you may be a bit over budget and don't forget a trans cooler for $80 and install for around $300.00 unless you can do it yourself.

It requires the removal of the transmission so I personally would not touch this job. I'll have mine professionally installed when my time comes.

So I think the vig3200 is a good choice because it's really more like a 3700 stall.

Good Luck

TCS might be able to make you something in that price range, give them a call.

A Yank SS3600/3800 will handle a 125 shot. The PYE series is really for 150 shot and above.

TCS makes the perfect converter for u. Its called the violator u can get 3200 3600 3800 4000 4200 or he can custom make u one for around 700 dollars they will hold 1200 horsepower and u can choose from 2.35, 2.50, 2.70, or 3.0 stall torque ratio and these converters have a 98% efficency.

I'd go with a TCS or a TCI in the 3500-3800 range. You don't need a nitrous specific converter for running a measly 125 shot.

A bigger shot is in the future, but I'm going to need to upgrade the fuel pump first, and I'm waiting on the racetronix unit. I'll pobably go prgressive controller also. Does anyone have a link or phone number for the folks at TCS? I see the sponser link for TCI but not TCS. They are two different companies, right?

You can always go with a Pro Yank 3600 without the Kevlar clutch and save $150.

Isn't the kevlar clutch what makes the converter good for nitrous.

Ws6snake-eater,

A TCI converter will do nicely for your set-up. The Super Streetfighter (3500 stall) will handle a 200 shot. It will increase your time by at least .5 sec in the 1/4 mile over a stock converter. You should be able to get the converter and cooler for around $600.

A C5 and F-body converter are not interchangeable.

The clutch material has nothing to do with it being able to handle nitrous unless you plan on manually locking the converter at WOT.

I did a search and found a few threads. One of them "What STR for a street/strip car" is right at the very top of the first page (well, before my posting now.) There was another called something like "Does STR have a direct relation on rear wheel TQ?." It's probably not far back and it too turned up on a search for "STR".
