Why not just purchase a well built unit from a Sponsor here? I have 4 cores in stock now! Last week we build 3 TH400's. I know Vince has some 4-6 in line to be built.

Point is, that unit has been out of production for a very long time. You just might be hard pressed to find one easily in a bone yard. I would think you'd find one easier by calling around to local shops or friends.

Good Luck on the hunt!

They stopped production in 1989 or 1990.
I once sent IIRC 8 cores to a sponsor here.
I see a lot of them in vans and trucks right about now heading to the crusher since I stopped collecting them.

craigslist.org has them too, but you need to make sure it's a 400 and not a 350

just hit up ACE tran's to build you one ready to roll out, their reputation has convinced me to use them once i have enough funds after the paint job

Since you'll need a Chevy Bolt pattern, T-400's are Found in 1966 & up Big Block & a few small block cars. Certainly in Pickups, etc. too.
T-400 has Vacumn Modulator facing out, while Turbo 350 modulator faces rearward. You may be fine with a Turbo 350 (also from a chevy only) and be good to over 400 RWHP+

they made them up untill 88 in trucks, some diesels have them, 2500-3500 trucks, i wouldnt pay much more than $100 for a core-it doesnt take much to rebuild them to be pretty strong-i just picked up one sat for $80, came out of an 83 truck, needs rebuilding, had the bolt on yoke
sometimes its cheaper, if your going to have a shop rebuild it, pay them the core charge
if you have a buddy or gonna do it yourself, then pickup a core
sometimes the cores are bad, so if you got a bad core, then your out the money
theres a tag on the side of the trans, has the year, then a letter code, helps ident. what it came out of
