looking for a new stall
well im fixing to have the trans rebuilt in my 99t/a and i was looking at stalls and wondering what stall is the best and best for the budget.i would like to get the most gas mileage out of it i could because i drive about 30 miles to work evryday and gas prices arnt to friendly on the wallet already. but i hate the stock stall it trys to pull me at lights and kinda gets on my nerves.but i will later go a mild cam and heads spray etc...so looking for a good streetable stall that will work well with that.

I have been doing a lot of research over the last few days and have found that most people like the Yank SS3600 and SS4000. They say it is a tight converter with a 2.5 STR and will feel almost like stock on the street until you open the car up. I'll probably go with the SS3600 since I will most like stay with stock heads, cam, and exhaust manifold on my 02 Z28. You might want to go with the SS4000 or higher if you are planning on upgrading engine components.
I am still trying to figure out if I will also need a shift kit and tune, would probably like to get it done all at once if I can get a discount on an install/tune.

You should get about the same because the stall will lock at a certain speed just like stock. In town it will be worse they say but I never noticed it when I have a TCI 3500. I would rev it to about 2k so so to get it moving and as long as you didn't punch it, it would hang there while accelleratin so it got decent gas. I was averaging 18-21 city/highway. I'm going to go with the Yank PT4400 because I've heard great things about it. Great all around stall for N/A cars. Hope this helps!

stock is 1800 i believe.
From doing my research I have found the converters that most people recommend on these forums
Circle D ~750 shipped
PI ~730
Yank SS ~725 shipped?
PerformaBuilt ~695 shipped
Edge ~555 + shipping (seen new one on ebay from Edge Racing)
PTC ~450 shipped from Weber Performance
I guess it comes down to your budget and needs. My car will remain mostly stock other than the mods in my sig and will probably see no track time. I am leaning towards Edge or PTC. ProBuilt Automatics sells Edge torque converters. I used a ProBuilt tranny in my 1990 Camaro, it was a great transmission so I trust what they recommend.
But I also like how PerformaBuilt and Circle D are pretty active sponsors on the forum.

thats the funny thing about edge converters, they aren't a sponser here. not many people know much about them. i have heard good things from others about their converters for other trannys, like th400 etc. andre is a good guy to deal with and turn around time for a restall is on par with the best around.

What do I do!!!!! sorry for hi-jacking the thread but I guess we are kind of in the same situation.
I was quoted $500 (400/100) for the install and tune, I would love to do it myself since I already have experience swapping trannys in my old 90 Camaro but definitely don't have the time to do that now.

well i know the consensus here on this site for converters. i went with edge to try something different and to save a few bucks. i will report good or bad with my results to be fair to everyone. i think the more competitive the market is the better for the buyer.

I myself keep going around in circles. I want a good converter but it will just be going into my daily driver, no track use, no crazy 1.5s 60' times, street tires, stock exhaust manifolds, heads and cam, just want something a little more fun to drive. I look at Circle D, Yank, and PI which are over $700 and say "is this a little too much for what I am using it for, is it like buying a bmw when all i need is a honda". Then I look at PerformaBuilt which gets good reviews and say "well, not much less than $700, but they are a sponsor but is it still too much" Then I look at Edge Converters and PTC and say "great price, good reviews when used in other types of transmissions (TH400, Powerglide, etc.), but not as proven with 4L60E/LS1s as the others"

I have had an Edge Racing Converter for a little over a year now and love it. It's a TH-350, 3200 stall, with a 2.2 STR........... I reccommended Edge Racing to a buddy of mine with a '69 Chevy C-10 with a big block and a TH-400. He got a 3000 stall and likes it a lot compared to his past B&M converter.

The converter is something you don't want to skimp on. Having a converter failure will cost a lot more than the $200 you supposedly saved. There is a reason the Circle D, PI and Yank are over $700 - a billet front. This piece is easily worth the $200 increase in price, probably more like $400. The main reason I add a billet front to the 4L60 converter is because of clutch area. Using the stock front cover on a 245mm converter does not have enough clutch area, and is destined for failure on a modified LS1. Just something to think about when selecting a performance converter
