Default whos got a pt4400 in a daily driver?

im really wanting to upgrade to a "real" converter. i havent really felt the need since i think my converter is working flawless....but after driving a car with a pt4400 in it, the difference was night and day. i could def. see how this converter would help from a roll a lot better than mine.

my car is about a 3650 race weight on the street and i have 3.73s. how will this converter be with that setup? and how about fluid temps? about the same as my vig 3200?

also...hows it if you spin too hard? the car i drove shifted into second immediately and would bog since we were going too slow for second. he said that hes got it down so it doesnt do that though.

i hope my car still goes as fast with a bigger converter

Wow, nice times man. I would thing you would be knocking on the door to 10's.

Anyways, I have a 4400 as a daily driver and its not as bad as everyone thinks. I like it alot youll be fine. Just get a tranny cooler if you dont have one like a B&M Supercooler.

thanks. i have a tranny cooler and deep trans pan and a trans temp guage. still running on a stock trans though i was afraid i wouldnt gain going to a different converter...but i dont see how i couldnt gain now. it will put me right in the power range all the time. my converter hits incredibly hard off the line (best of 1.47) but i always thought it left something to be desired everywhere else- just too tight. i dont know if i 60' so well cause of the converter or the car or something else. it went 1.8s with the stock verter <shrug> time to find out if i can do better

I have a PT4200 in my daily driver. It's loose, but not too bad. I have stock gears, too.

I daily drove my 2000 with a TP4400 in it, with both 2.73s (LOOSE) and with 4.10s, was not bad. I never had a 3200 to compare it to, but it pulled hard. Kinda wish I still had an automatic, but, oh well. I don't see how you couldn't pick up, the TP4400 is such a proven convertor, but your car is a freak to begin with. I'm just trying to keep up with you, and I have heads. You have a PM, by the way.

it will be noticably looser than a Vig 3200.

I probably wouldn't switch if you can consistently pull very low 1.5's. This isn't to say that you might not be able to pull mid 1.4s consistently with the upgrade, only that your combo is working right.

i know it will be looser, but i think i could live with it. i think if i do the swap that i will keep the vig around till i know for sure that the 4400 has helped me. worse case i dont like it and put the vig back in. now i just need to find one that isnt 900+ bucks. maybe i can hit 10s without porting the heads...thad be something. more weight reduction, still need a tb....mmmm

shawn- i sent you a pm back. i havent had a chance to call you cause ive been really busy lately

I drive mine here every day in Houston It is really not that bad you just have to watch the tranny temp. If you have a lot of stop lights i really would not get it becuse gas milage will get really bad, and tranny hot but if you dont stop and go that much got for i love mine. I am switching to a py3600 and i know i am going to miss not having it.

An alternative to a TP4400 would be a TCS4400 give Derek a call at TCS. Derek can build you a 4400 taylored to your driving and racing needs. He built me a very streetable TCS4200 that has very good street manners for a big stall converter but still has 5700-5800 shift extensions. Plus the price is right they have a GP going on right now $675.00 shipped to your door. Not to mention the 3 year warranty and the unlimited free restalls.

All about what you get use too. I've daily driven a TP-4400, UT-4600 and now have a TP-4200 with 3.73's. I now have a truck.. but I still drive the car more

Ditto on that. I use to have a Vig3600 and I also wanted more so I ordered me a TCS 4200 and am very happy with the results...see sig for new times.

Two words...DO IT! I knocked off a full tenth from my old Vig3200 best in MUCH worse air. My converter likes 2800-3000 launches, it hits like a freight train. Shift extension and efficency are way better also (you should pick up a little more MPH.)

As far as looseness and street driving goes, I raised my part throttle shift points and lowered lockup MPH (thanks Ragtop). Also, it generates a little more heat, so I gonna get a bigger cooler. Its only a problem when it really hot out. I sometimes see 200 on the gauge in stop and go driving.

Gotta go to a friends wedding that day, I would rather go racing, but that wouldn't go over too well.
