I guess what you have to determine is this a lock up clutch that is chattering or if you have driveability issue with the engine. Vince

it may be something with the engine. i didnt throw any codes for the tranny

Do you have engine related codes? If it is a lockup clutch issue you should get a 1870 code. If the clutch is bad then the converter will need to be opened up and checked out. Vince

flooring it with any auto other than from a dead stop is bad. 4l60 is not rolling race friendly. plan to break many things if you keep driving like that.

wow
Flooring it isn't going to burn the trans up.
Flooring it at 70 should cause a downshift.
Here are two videos I had already, there are three 4-3 downshifts, one at wot.
This one I was trying to not let it downshift http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv7jlr6LpbE
This one is a wot downshift http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb4DUGWhAqM
I built my trans, not worried about it burning up. And if it does I'll build it better.

what would cause my tranny to move then kick then move again when i floor it at 70? it doesnt do that at downshifts at 30. maybe i need a tune on the engine? my mods are listed in a post above. would a lean or rich mixture cause the motor to make it drive like that?

Get a transmission shop to look at tranny. If you are in need of a stock converter with only 3k miles, PM me. Goodluck.

It sounds like an engine problem to me.
I'd manually downshift it and see what happens.
I'd guess a lean condition. It's hard to do over the internet as you know.
Maybe check the fuel pressure, thats easy and can be done for free if you rent the gauge.
Maybe pull a spark plug out, make sure it's not dark (rich).
Make sure the wires are on good, seen a few posts about that causing problems. What about the spark plugs? I've seen posts about cracked plugs causing problems too, not too hard to put a hairline crack in one during installation.

i may be running rich or lean with the mods ive done. i still need a tune and tune things out. i have had detonation/ping. could detonation and ping cause drivability issues with the tranny? i think my old plugs i just changed were black. does a lean or a rich mixture cause detonation/ping?

Lean causes a ping, rich makes plugs black. Rich conditions also foul plugs (misfires) and O2 sensors.
Thats a good place to start, getting it tuned.

Like it's dropping a cylinder out? Yes
It should downshift. If not, manually downshift it to 3rd and see what it does.

Engine misfires such as detonation will cause your converter to lock and unlock. Get this car to a tuner before you blow something up. Vince

vince, your explanation makes sense. i think this could be the problem. detonation causing my converter to lock and unlock

also, i had another question. would a misfire cause my SES light to blink? my light isnt blinking but it does stay on. no tranny codes. just engine related codes
