What causes the PCM to send the unlock command to the converter? Is there a list available somewhere of all the things that trigger the PCM to send the unlock command?

Thank you for your input.

I hooked mine to a switch so i can control it myself. if it comes on under wot it could damage it so when im racing i leave it unlocked and when i get on the interstate i turn it on at about 60mph. its been like that for a while now and no problems.

1-tilt in and out throttle
2-random engine misfire
3-hitting the brake
4-excessive converter slip will set code p01970 and disable lockup
5-engine low temperature
6-heavy load detection maf related

There may be more these are some I am aware off

yeah i had the same issue with unlocking on the highway, and it really sucked... mine ended up being in the tune, and I took it to a different tuner and got it right!!

Mine was a tuning issue. I had the HP Tuner 1.7 and everything was fine. I upgraded to the MPVI PRO 2.2 and it had more functions. They told me that they had downloaded my tune. GREAT!. Not so great. When I took the car to get it tuned, they had found the problem and corrected it. I have the Vetronix scanner at our shop. I could manually lock the converter, (Brand new Vigilante 4000), for ever. I felt the converter would be OK, but better safe than sorry. I thought it was something I missed when I did the trans. It was driving me nuts! I was in the process of sending the converter to get checked when I had taken the car to the tuner because I had to know. I'm no tuner either. They found it right away, Vector Motorsports. I would go to a tuner ASAP as not to burn up the converter clutch. They had to get rid of the missfire codes, #2 on Performa's list. If you have engine lights on the dash, this would be a telltale sign, I was told. Good Luck.
PS, I think #4 is P1870, lol.

Thanks for the replies! I get no trouble codes or check engine light, that is what puzzles me most. I will get it to a tuner. Thanks again.
