why do you want a fast car? cars are for transportation from a to b.

Because most of us can't afford a 700hp car, and a daily driver car, and a truck, and a v-twin cruiser bike, and a Liter calss sport bike, and, and, and.
A truck that can "haul your crap around", and outrun 90% of the "sports cars" on the road and even smack around sport bikes is just cool as ****. A 2003 GMC 4X4 stepside extended cab with say an 800-900hp twin turbo engine is about the only thing I'd swap my Firebird for.

There's a difference in dumping money into making a much-heavier (usually) vehicle accelerate more rapidly than a less-heavier vehicle that wasn't designed for carrying heavy or large cargo. There is a nuance here. I agree it comes down to personal preference. I'd never seriously mod a truck, but others certainly do and that's their thing.

There is no logical justification for modifying any vehicle for more power.
That said, i'm all for it.
In fact, i'm proud to say there's no logical justification for most of the things I do on a daily basis.

sure there is....but you have to stay within the confines of the vehicles original purpose to keep it sensible....EX. A ,,,A kid takes a civic(or any 4cyl econo box) and mods it. It gets no better mileage when he's done than our big v8's and is alot slower and breaks all the time...he should've have modded it for better mpg instead of power. EX B ,,, trucks...there suppose to haul stuff and get you places that cars can't and tow and be very reliable. You add 400hp raise it up 6" , put big tires on it and all of a sudden it does nothing well. For the money spent it still ain't fast.
The correct mods can enhance performance with no ill effects...as long as ya don't get carried away.

You modify a truck for the same reason as a car... to have fun! Here's my buddy's '97 Silvy with a cam'd LQ4 in it at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in MI.

Here are some pics of the truck too. Still needs to be painted. Going to be burgundy when it's done.

I must be the king of not making sense.
My DD is a lifted 2002 Silvy 1500. I've got a LQ4 with a 76mm BB turbo on a stand just waiting for me to swap it in.
My work truck is a beat up 1989 Silvy 1500 RCSB. It's in the final stages of getting a shortened 1-Ton frame and 1-Ton running gear with a 1998 Vortec 454. I'm going to eventually turbo or twin turbo the 454.
Hell, I even swapped the engine in my work plane, which is a S2R Thrush from a TPE-331-1 (600 SHP) to a TPE-331-6 (715 SHP).
All my friends tell me I have a problem...

The automotive fortitude seen here is just the materialization of the attitudes that enable you to drive a Trans Am instead of a Fiat 500.
This truck is actually much more practical than an Fbody ever will be, btw. I'm thinking you need to buy a Honda Fit.

I still want a 4wd dual Hayabusa turbo 500 hp engines one in the front one in the back. sequential transmissions would be needed, hell there already on the engines.... Sounds like the funnest car i can think of. And very practical!

Because some people have a passion for automotive performance thats part engineer part psychopath/adrenaline junkie, in essense a performance automobile reflects the dreams of mankind to freedom and flight and to push the boundarys of engineering because we can.
