so now that ford has a new 5.0 for the f150s rated at 360 hp & 380 tq... will GM redesign the 5.3 to give it more power? the 6.2 is nice, but they wont put that in all the trucks. so im thinking they will do something to bump it up to either match or beat ford. whats yalls take? do you guys have ne news on a new motor? ive always thought that the silverado outpowered the f150 so they better get their act together!

The next gen trucks will get the Gen V motor. So far theres nothing but rumors about engines sizes and power output. People are predicting a 5.5, 5.7, 7.0, and a supercharged 6.2. So far the 5.5 is comfirmed. The Gen V is going to blow the Gen IV out of the water with new technologies such as DI and with a new valvetrain, which was prob designed by the R07 NASCAR team. But the most exciting thing a bout the Gen V is that there is a new "combustion" technology. No one knows what that means, but GM has something up their sleeves.
The Gen V will be the most advanced V8 for the dollar.

Just look at the sucess of the SBC, LS - Series, and the R07 NASCAR engine. GM knows how to build a V8. They have been dominating for 50 plus years. The R07 wins championships, The LS - Series the most proven modern V8. The SBC made what GM is today.
The same engineers that designed the Ford 5.0 also designed the new Ford FR9 NASCAR engine. The FR9 only won one race this season! The R07 won three straight championships since the debut. GM and Ford take NASCAR engine tech and implement those technologies in production engines.
Ford did a great job designing the 5.0. If i was a GM man, i'd buy a Ford. But the Gen V is going to blow that engine out of the water. A Gen V paired with the upcoming 4 mode hybrid electric transmission is going to rape any Ford truck in power, towing, and most importantly mpg.
What does Ford have to offer down the road??? A twin turbo ecoboost v6 lol. Ford trucks are far behind in mpg technologies for trucks. People laugh at GM for producing the 2 mode suvs and trucks saying they're to expensive. GM is just ahead of the game. Do you really think GM wanted to burn millions of dollars on a hybrid system? They could have used that money to designed some sick powerful, horrible mpg, bad *** trucks. GM had to make some tough choices, but they made some smart choices.
The future is looking bright for GM trucks and SUVs

This is what makes major upgrades so difficult for me. As soon as I pull the trigger I know a bigger, badder thing will come out. This week LS3's are hot. Next week???

First, you are comparing an existing engine to a rumored engine. Second, you are comparing a high output version of Ford's high-performance motor to what GM considers to be a base engine. Finally, you may want to hold off on celebrating until you see the fuel-mileage comparison. I would bet real money that an OHV DI V8 is going to beat the pants off a DOHC non-DI V8 when it comes to efficiency.

it just might. i wasnt comparing the 5.3 to the BOSS302. i was comparing the 5.5 DI. you are right about comparing a rumor to reality. guess we wait and see.

on a side note.....for whatever reason, Ford has decided to join the HP war. its not in the company's character. for example.....
the block of the GT500 wasnt redesigned for weight savings only. it was designed for 1000hp factory power in mind.
the new TD for the F series was designed for more than 400hp/800tq.
the coyote was designed with HP improvements in mind... ie the DI boss cast into the head.
the 3.7 dohc makes roughly the same power of the DI 3.6 without DI.
it doesnt make them any better, its just strange Ford has joined an expensive war nobody can win.

Regardless, the 5.5 should be compared (if at all) to the regular 5.0, because it will be in cars that are direct competition for the mustang GT. There will be something hotter to compete with the Boss. And something even hotter than that to compete with the GT500...and so on.
And here I am arguing about a motor that doesn't even exist...sheesh.
