I love the looks of this car. I bet it makes a bit more then the V due to better exhaust and perhaps slightly more aggressive tuning.

My number ONE concern, as most of you share, is THE DAMN WEIGHT!!!! GM, are you listening? PLEASE don't make this a pig!!! I don't know about everyone else, but me personally would pay an extra 5 grand on whatever their price may be if they just managed to get this thing under 3800 pounds. That's not asking for so much is it? lol

GM powertrain is calling the Camaro LSA 550/550 (HP/TQ).

Although the LSA engines used in the CTS-V series and Camaro ZL1 are essentially the same, there are minor differences and variations to accommodate the vehicles’ different body structures and chassis. Compared to the Cadillac applications, the LSA in the Camaro ZL1 differs with:

• A black intercooler housing with unique heat exchanger and plumbing to accommodate the Camaro engine compartment
• Cast stainless steel exhaust manifolds for enhanced thermal management
• Camaro-specific oil pan
• Revised accessory drive with unique alternator and air conditioning compressor
• Idler pulley in place of the conventional power steering pump pulley, because of the use of electric power steering
• Special engine cover in red.

It has been confirmed that this car will have an Automatic A6 option as well as ZR1 Traction Management. Also HP numbers to be higher then 550hp.

Excelent... they just increased sales potential 3 fold. For every manual fan out there, there are 5 who want an auto but generaly won't speak out in fear of looking "un-kool"... Corvette sales can speak for that.

Good news! This could REALLY help at the drag strip. Idonno if Ford will offer an answer in the GT500, immediately or otherwise. It's probable, but maybe they just don't care. People have been asking for an auto in that car since the beginning and so far, nope.

Over on Camaro5, there are several "this is it" type comments regarding the performance car at its best... Evidently they've not yet heard of the Corvette.

True...but now with the addition of an optional automatic in the ZL1 it could allow for the GT500 to be caught off guard so to speak.
In other words, the driver of the 'manual trans only' GT500 had better be well skilled and consistent every time they line up from a dig if he (or she) plans to truly utilize that 'tire shredding' power advantage.

It was sarcasm.

I know what the car has, 255/285s. But still needs to have wider tires for the power its putting out.

I'm assuming that they'll use the beefier 6L90 for the ZL1 instead of the regular Camaro SS's 6L80.

Eh... hp ain't everything. They'll need to get an auto in there if the car is to run really well on the drag strip. It will also have to get much larger rear tires. That sounds like a 60k price tag from here and I'm not convinced Ford is interested.

I figure the 2013 or 2014 will be redesigned anyway... Hope it's nice.

Like I say towards all these spec talks about cars that aren't out yet... Ill believe it when I see it! The ZL1 is going to be a bad *** car from all the news I've been hearing about it. The 2013 GT500? who knows.... Nothing is really official for it compared to the ZL1. I'm just happy GM is making a better competition car against the S/C stangs & offering more options. As long as Camaros are outselling Mustangs I'm happy I already knew that the ZL1 was going to have more then 550 hp I mean come on... lol now they need to focus on weight & getting that thing to launch like a bat out of hell. Something the GT500 has lacked in.. I'm still waiting for that Z28 news to be announced yet to take on the Boss 302
