No ****! I can already see people swapping that thing into as many platforms as the LS1. That sounds like a truly bad-*** motor, now all we can do is hope it gets a forged bottom end.
Also i saw no mention of Direct Injection or Variable timing, wonder if those will make it into the design. Anyone check the patents office yet?

Wow so GM is gonna build the new corvette with a motor that has the same displacement as my Supra? Awesome!
On a serious note, GM needs to have the option of a DCT in the new Corvettes. They should still offer a 6 speed but offer DCT for those who are serious road racers or just like to get consistent shifts. And if they do it, it shouldn't be just another auto trans.

While this new motor rumor is right now still just a rumor, there is some real talk of a true sequential (aka: clutchless manual) trans being passed around as very possible for the next Corvette.

GM is right on track with a small displacement turbo V8. Teamed with a dual clutch auto and perhaps a gvw of under 3200 lbs this will surely attract those with Ferrari taste but a Porsche budget.
The 5.5 should be a fire breather as well and I can't imagine it putting out any less power than the current LS3...if history repeats.
