I cringed when I saw that "HP per liter" comment in there. But other than that, it should be interesting. 3.0L V8? Those cylinders must be tiny. Wonder what it sounds like at idle and screaming at 10,000 RPM?

Cool

This could be something.
I'm wondering if Ford's EcoBoost twin turbo V6 had any sort of influence on this idea/concept.

No ****! I can already see people swapping that thing into as many platforms as the LS1. That sounds like a truly bad-*** motor, now all we can do is hope it gets a forged bottom end.
Also i saw no mention of Direct Injection or Variable timing, wonder if those will make it into the design. Anyone check the patents office yet?

It says right in the article that the undisclosed tip off mentioned there would still be high displacement V8's...

Split window would be ugly. Of course everything GM says and this point is engineered to simply stir up talk.

We already know it's going to be a 5.5L V8.

I wonder didn't chevy get back into Indycar or something? Don't they run small displacement twinturbo v8s?

Wow so GM is gonna build the new corvette with a motor that has the same displacement as my Supra? Awesome!

On a serious note, GM needs to have the option of a DCT in the new Corvettes. They should still offer a 6 speed but offer DCT for those who are serious road racers or just like to get consistent shifts. And if they do it, it shouldn't be just another auto trans.

While this new motor rumor is right now still just a rumor, there is some real talk of a true sequential (aka: clutchless manual) trans being passed around as very possible for the next Corvette.

GM is right on track with a small displacement turbo V8. Teamed with a dual clutch auto and perhaps a gvw of under 3200 lbs this will surely attract those with Ferrari taste but a Porsche budget.
The 5.5 should be a fire breather as well and I can't imagine it putting out any less power than the current LS3...if history repeats.

This, they didn't put it in the C6.R for nothing.

Well if the small turbo V8 is true, I'm pretty sure that will make it's way into a fourth gen or at least a third gen.
